I've "never actually seen him play", but Rodri seems pretty legit based on everything I read? Goes from Fernandinho being indispensable to wondering how they're going to work out the minutes back there.

I am not convinced that Rafa Benitez is as great a Manager as some pundits believe.

But he is a damn sight better than classic English retread Steve Bruce.

Newcastle will be Bruce's 11th coaching job in 20 years.

There are a bunch of guys - Bruce, Hughes, Pullis, Allardyce, Warnock who just seem to get recycled from one mediocre team to another.

Is there really such a dearth of quality young English managers?

Too scared to try unproven guys due to relegation and panic.

The headline seemed depressing as an Arsenal fan, but reading the article, it's more depressing that they are putting the odds at 5-1 that this whole Area 51 bullshit succeeds in proving intelligent alien life landed on Earth. Arsenal 50-1 to win the league seems about right, if not optimistic.

Are they the logical team to make the jump if the big 6 becomes 7 or would it more likely be an out of nowhere new-money deal?

Well Pulisic is starting his Blues career the right way.
2 goals in the first 45 against Salzburg

2 goals 8 minutes apart, and drew a PK in the middle. Factor in the celebrations and time to set up for the PK, that is a very brief window of actual game time.

Not EPL, but did you see what Diego Costa did against Real Madrid last weekend? Four goals and a red card. That's the Diego Costaest game ever.

Spurs on a buying rampage!

Love the Sessengnon signing. 19 years old, 5 year contract, could be huge.

As for Ndombele and lo Celso - never seen them play, but midfield was a real weakness last season, and the reviews are great on these two guys.

I'd be surprised if Ericksen lasts the day in London, but if not, this midfield is stacked.

No!! Not Iwobi! I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but he is first cousins with my best friend growing up. My parents still do stuff with his parents, so my Mom got into watching Arsenal out of interest in seeing Iwobi play.

But Ryan is tiny!

He had a fantastic 17-18 season in the Championship with Fulham, and I'm pretty sure I saw him play in the Championship as a 16 year old when I went to Craven Cottage in spring 17. He seemed to get lost in the shuffle last year. Fulham were abysmal, so it may not be on him. I'd love to see him flourish with Spurs.

The Belgians at the back will cover up a lot of mistakes.

Pretty crazy week for Chelsea and David Luiz. He was ostensibly one of the starting center backs at the start of the week. He had signed a two-year extension this summer, which Chelsea had previously almost never done for an over-thirty-year-old player.

Then, news came out on Wednesday that Luiz had been held out of practice and was demanding a trade. Thursday morning, it was official, Luiz to Arsenal.

Crazy stuff. Good thing Chelsea had kind of a glut of center backs. We'll keep one or two of our young guys who were otherwise gonna be loaned.

And 8 million pounds?

I don;t think he's much above average, but even so, it's a good pickup for Arsenal.

I think he more than makes up for the loss of Koscielny. Love Koscielny, but he is 33, and has missed significant time through injuries over the past 2 or 3 years. If only Mustafi would leave...

Anyone know anything about Nicolas Pepe? Arsenal splashed £72 million for him, so he better be damned good.

He's still pretty damn good. Yes, he can make mistakes, but he sort of offsets that with his offensive abilities which are uncommon for the position. He's a great long passer, pretty good on corner kicks, and an occasionally brilliant free kick taker.

He's also (usually) a crowd and locker room favorite. Which is part of why this was so odd. He seemed really happy at Chelsea (and vice versa). This seemed to come out of nowhere. Maybe he and Lampard had something simmering from when they played together.

Yeah, in a regular, open market, Luiz certainly would have been worth more than 8M, but I think Chelsea just wanted it done. Not much downside for Arsenal at all.

Welcome to the big league Villa.

Scored in the 9th minute on a nice long ball play, but I don't think they had a shot on target for the last 80 minutes. Spent the entire second half dodging bullets, and once Ericksen came on in the 65th minute, it was game over.

They didn't have a single corner...

But what drives me nuts - and you hear this whenever a team plays like this and loses late - is when the announcer says that "you have to feel bad for" the team.
