sancarlos wrote:Looks like a great dog. Our mutt has some border collie in her, and all I can say is that you should give her jobs and keep her busy. Border collies are the smartest. And, if that intelligence (and energy) isn't put to good use and they get bored, you will suffer for it!

Ours loves getting the paper every morning, going to look for squirrels/rats int the garden, chasing the tennis ball, doing tricks, etc. Have fun!
Unbelievably sweet-natured. HAs already made friends with a number of neighbourhood dogs as well as the neighbouring humans. Not yappy, and is adapting quickly to us.

She's been home for 24 hours and has had 5 walks. I am used to a stumpy terrier's pace, and am not used to coming home from a hort walk all sweaty. Even at half-speed, this girl lopes. We ran in the park a bit, and jeez, it's another world.

So, their will be some agility training for her - to keep her mind working and to give her the exercise she'll need. I'm used to walking a dog for 30-40 minutes a day. I think Izzy will be getting me and my family into shape, as we will be spending a lot of time at the park. There's a great fenced-in off leash area there too. When she's a bit more settled, we will be moving in there.
She looks awesome. Enjoy not sleeping tonight.
I didn't. But when I did wake up, my office was coated in dog shit. May be a smart breed... but still a pup.

Thanks.

Fully expected. Not pleasant, but at least it wasn't baboon sized.

I love when this thread gets bumped for good reason.

Just back from a walk with the neighbour and her poodles. She let go of one of the leashes just to scoop up the poodle's crap. He took a step away and she yelled at him to stop. Izzy (my pup) bounced over a step and used her chest to push the poodle back towards my neighbour.

The herding instinct is ingrained deeply. This is a different type of dog for me. I just wish that there was a flock of sheep in the nearby park for her to work with!

Let your dog go to a birthday party of 5 year olds. Hilarious to watch the dog herding the kids.

Upon further review, it would appear that while my new dog Izzy definitely has border collie in her, and probably has some lab, she could be defiuned as a "Potcake" dog.

When my beloved Sydney goes (she won't -- she's 12 and gonna live forever) I should get a crazy border collie or cattle dog again and have someone to run with.

Meg trains for marathons with ours (not runs of that length obviously, but training). She's been a lot less walky with the cancer, but she's springing back OK.

Mine apparently got more of the lazy lab DNA. She's content with a half hour walk in the evening and a half hour of racing around the yard with her adopted puppy sister in the morning.

Cat story here, instead of a dog one. But, it seemed like the closest to an appropriate location.

Right now, we are in the middle of a three day project where a crew works under our home, in the crawl space (don't ask). We have three indoor cats, in addition to our dog. We noticed last evening that we hadn't seen one of the cats since the morning - odd since that one is the friendliest and most outgoing. We knew that the workers were going in and out of the house, often not closing the door, so we figured the cat had gotten out and was exploring. We looked everywhere in the house, in the yard, in the neighborhood, and in the crawl space to the extent we could, to no avail. So, after much hand-wringing by my wife and daughter, we put up flyers around the neighborhood and posted on Nextdoor. More time spent looking all over the neighborhood...

Today, the workers came back, and we asked them to look hard for the cat under the house. Sure enough, after working down there in the crawl space for over an hour, one of the guys noticed the cat, hiding in a corner behind some piping. Everyone finally exhales! Now, the next job will be to coax the cat out of there!

The dog playing free safety in the GIF thread led me to a great reddit, https://www.reddit.com/r/Dogberg/. Mostly dogs plowing into kids, but some other good stuff, too.

Apparently named after the wrestler Goldberg's move, the spear, as shown after throwing out the first pitch.

My beast has kennel cough. Apparently the bordatella vaccine is like the flu vaccine for humans - it doesn't immunize against all strains.

It really sucks - and makes sleeping really difficult.

Jack Russel racing is one of those things that makes me laugh. They shoot out of the box for the fox tail. The race is about 5 seconds and then owners chase them around trying to get them back for 2 minutes. Also fun when the dog just locks on and won't let go off the tail. Just hanging down as they lift him and shake.
Similarly when a dog gets distracted mid race and shoots off to the right or left. Just good fun

Just got a call from the vet. My 9-year-old lab, Lucy, has lymphoma.

Image

She's the one in the front.

I now have an appointment with an oncologist for tomorrow morning. Googling it, the prognosis is iffy. It sounds like we're going to be doing chemo. I guess we'll see what the doc says though.
