They call him "Houston" because he has no zoning ordinance and owns three strip clubs.

Congrats, Brian.

Yeah it’s a specimen isn’t it? I feel like this doug is gonna accidentally break some shit in our house (which is relatively dog-proof) but that’s OK.
Well he has clearly broken any chance of you sitting on the sofa. Looks like he is pretty happy and comfortable.

good news! Pen's surgery went well and she's already awake and sitting up. I get to pick her up tomorrow

bad news
[+] spoiler
T has the c word. it's a mass in his neck that's pushing against his trachea. fuck. upshot is that he's been snoring for a long while (maybe a year?) and they believe it's pretty slow growing. so we could have a lot of time. but we can't do anything other than manage it given where it is and, well, he's 11 in September.

we only found this out because he was limpy and lethargic one day last week and I wanted to be sure everything was OK. they kinda accidentally discovered it when they were putting a leash on him for the x-rays the next day and decided to take a look in case of something bad there. they're not worried about the leg because it could very well be arthritis/injury/whatever.

since the first vet visit he's been on pain pills which have helped the snoring as I've been watching him closely ever since they discovered the mass on Friday. he doesn't always snore either, so that also seems to be a good sign. he's also totally back to being normal. he jumps and goes crazy before walks and jumps off the pillow to run to the front door and bark at whoever is across the street or if there's a UPS truck. had he not had one bad day and I wanted to make sure we were all good, I'd be in ignorant bliss now.

but I think I'd rather have cried a shit ton over the last week and prepped myself for today's news than be ignorant

Sorry Toby. Hopefully it's as slow moving as possible and he can't be bothered to care why you're being extra nice to him.

Let’s do happy stuff.

This is what I got for spending $6,000 on two ACL surgeries last year.

At a quick first glance, it looked like you had half a dog left.

We signed a lease addendum (and coughed up another $200) this week for the shore house we're renting at the end of the summer to allow us to bring the mutt along. Should be different. MFer better be cool and not get us in trouble.

Got back from a week long trip yesterday... There's nothing like the joy of a dog reuniting with its pack. And in this case, my daughter is home from school and is the dog's favorite, so it was extreme joy.

Well, after her struggle with heart issues, today was the day. Give your pups an extra treat tonight, Clarice's orders.

Sorry to hear.

That day is fast approaching for my 16 year old Maine Coon, who now weighs less than 3 lbs and just lies in our bed most of the time. I'll give him some extra rubs per Clarice's orders.

Thanks guys. The kids are handling it as well as I could hope for. Knowing it was coming helped soften the blow, but it's still going to be a rough week with all the little reminders of her around the house.

Hinted at it above, but today's the day for my 16 year old cat. The summer after law school my wife and I had moved in together and I left one morning to study for the bar. As I walked to my car, I saw a white cat with a grey spot hiding under my tire. When I got closer, the white cat ran off and the grey spot stayed. He was no bigger than my fist and neither my wife nor I had ever had a cat, or had any desire to own a cat. We found him on a Sunday, so there wasn't a place that we could take him until the vet opened the next day. When we took him in, he was no more than a pound, had fleas, worms, and a few other maladies. We nursed him back to health and he's been with us for 16 years.

He's been such a sweet boy the entire time, abiding the fact that we got a puppy shortly after we got him, and generally being a loveable furball. The past few months have been rough as his decline has gotten steeper, he's been less willing, or able, to groom himself. His gums and mouth are red and bleeding often. As I type this, he's climbed on my stomach, with no idea. I know there's nothing else I can do for him, but this is gonna be a rough one.

Sorry Chedda. Sucks.

Our three cats are each 14 and our dog is 11. In a couple years, I'll probably be making sad posts here on the reg.

Thanks. I can tell you that seeing some shots of LJam's new kitten on FB have helped. My guy looked a bit similar, without the white, and was way better at chess.
