So the real story appears to be Eriksen told the team to get ready for Belgium and UEFA forced a now or tomorrow decision.
I can't see any other solution other than now or tomorrow. The schedule is so tight it not logistically possible to move one game without postponing everything.
Or they could have just declared that game a draw.

Holy shit! Patrik Schick just scored from near midfield for the Czech Republic. Amazing goal. Very similar to Carli Lloyd's goal in the World Cup finals against Japan.
Birds don’t suck. They lack the necessary anatomical structures to do so.
Why? It was the 3rd game of the whole tournament; you could have easily slid them to the France/Germany days for G1 restart and G2 then the whole group to the last Wednesday. If there’s a massive lightning storm for two days are they going to force play or figure something out?

Pretty remarkable...but why was the Scotland keeper all the way out to near-midfield?
Yeah, I have the games on but muted and looked up right when the ball was struck. I had to run it back to see what the goalie was doing and... I could've been scored on MANY times if players had the vision and skill that Czech guy displayed. It's pretty common for us to be a good 10-15 yards out of our area when our team has possession.
Very opportunistic play there.

Is it fair to call Poland perpetual disappointments? I always think they should do better, but then when I think about it I can't really decide how much better. Maybe they perform right to expectations?

They're missing their second striker, which doesn't help, but were they really expected to do much? I mean, sure losing to Slovakia wouldn't be great, but it's not England/Iceland.

It's kind of a cupcake group with Slovakia and Sweden. Even Spain are sort of meh this year.

Kickoff delayed for Spain Sweeden so they can fix the nets in the goals. See Pros are just like my kids rec games. Only different is they are not using mustache duct tape I have in my coaching gear bag.
So something just occurred to me. I know immigration to Sweden, Norway, Iceland, etc has been happening but would have expected Spain to have more non-white guys than Sweden. Then I was trying to think of players for Spain who were not white...could not think of any. Portugal, France, Germany all have players pop in my head but none from Spain.

I think Inaki Williams must've not made their team, but I'm pretty sure he's been capped. Adama Traore's parents are Malian. The Spanish team has historically brought in Brazilians more than Africans. Tiago Alcantara and Marcos Senna come to mind. Aymeric Laporte just "transferred" from France to Spain.

I can think of a couple of reasons.
1. Spain never colonized an African country (Spain and portugal had an agreement)
2. Not many blacks immigrate to Spain, I think blacks are like 3% of the population, and Arab/Muslim about the same.
in the past, Spain has naturalized a few Brazilians and that's about it.

A further question is why does every South American team have black players except Argentina? I don't think there's even been one.
Were they less involved with the slave trade? If so, they made up for it with the whole nazi thing.

Le woof. That was bad.
Or "der woof" I guess
I'm always curious on these. Was it bad that he didn't play it over or bad that he didn't let it go and force Mbappe to finish?
(I assumed the former but that would seem less "bad" and more "unfortunate"?)
Oh he def should've played it... it just looked like he could've gotten a better touch than with his shin, which is a total wildcard in where the ball will go and is a classic own goal cause.
I mean, Mpappe is going to walk that into the goal, so Hummel has to make an attempt. I would side on unfortunate, because running full tilt back to your goal is fraught with danger.
It's why, as a coach, I went ballistic* when my players shot near post instead of either aiming far post or sending a low/hard cross through the six. Unless the goalie is really giving up the near post, the better percentage play is to put it in play across the goal mouth.
Drives. Me. NUTS. when players have no angle for a good shot and just hit it into the side netting. I know sometimes they don't have their hips set up to swing it across, but more often than not they're really just being mentally lazy.
* - Only two things got me off the bench and barking. One was this, the other was for players not to track back after a turnover. Cut the shit, kid. You already fucked up by losing possession, don't double down on your bullshit.

Fans who jeer concussion protocols suck. Even MLS is past that.
Pavard sure looked unawake when he went down before. Why not make the sub knowing you have five and a newly concussioned defender is rarely the best option to hold a one goal lead?
