“I want to know who’s the person, who’s the person who gave the whistle-blower the information? Because that’s close to a spy,” he continued. “You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? Right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”

Meanwhile, lets see what's going on at the school that Mother Pence teaches at..

Sixth-grade boys pin down classmate, cut her dreadlocks calling them 'ugly' and 'nappy' at Virginia private school
Three sixth-grade boys are accused of pinning down a fellow classmate -- a 12-year-old girl -- on the playground and cutting her dreadlocks because they are "nappy" and "ugly."

Amari Allen said she has never been more traumatized in her life until Monday when she said a group of white male classmates attacked her on the playground at Immanuel Christian School, a private K-12 school, in Fairfax, Virginia.

Amari tells WUSA9 that one boy covered her mouth and the second boy put her hands behind her back, while the third boy pulled out scissors and cut her medium-length dread locks while calling her names.

Allen's family pays nearly $12,000 a year for Amari to attend the private school where Vice President Mike Pence's wife, Karen Pence, teaches.

John Oliver called this Stupid Watergate over 2 years ago...

Then last year did a follow up on it...

I really hope he checks back in for a third installment.

It also shows you just how pathetic Democrats have been in all of this.

It finally took Joe Biden being caught in the crossfire and his idiot son, who got discharged from the Navy for testing positive for cocaine and is totally not into shady shit otherwise, to move the needle and give Democrats the backbone they need to pursue impeachment.

I would like for Bernie or Warren to seize on Hunter being a shitheel, but that would probably hurt them in the long run.

My only real worry about the downside of impeachment is that it causes the Democratic Party and/or its primary electorate to coalesce around Biden as the face of the anti-Trump movement. Your points about Hunter Biden are spot-on. (Totally normal to go from getting fired from a job for cocaine use to landing a $600K board position. Nothing at all shady there.) Trump is a blatantly corrupt nepotist but running Biden is the best way to mute that advantage for the Dems.

This is your worry? Now?

It was always going to be Biden. Like it was always going to be Hillary in 2016. The nucleus of the Democrat Party is corrupt and they're not going to let a bunch of progressives get in their way. Pelosi did nothing (despite her own house members yelling at her) until it involved Biden. Then she moved fast.

Say what you want about the GOP and all their problems. At least in 2016 they had an open race which led to Trump being first, Cruz second and Kasich third. A result nobody predicted and something nobody in the GOP wanted but the voters were allowed to determine their candidate in each state's primary. And even when at the convention, they couldn't stop Trump.

When Biden wins Iowa, you will see. The progressives are fighting a war on two fronts.

The idea that the one reason the Democratic Party cares is because this is Biden is pretty lame.

The reason that it has hit this time is because there's a clearer smoking gun*. Period. End of story. It has nothing to do with Biden (beyond the fact that it was him that Trump was trying to get a foreign power to dig dirt on). It could have just as easily been Bernie and been as much of a scandal.

* - And it's a much bigger "crime" to have a sitting president seeking assistance from a foreign power than it is a private citizen.

I don't think they would have moved if it was dirt on Bernie.

Biden ain't winning Iowa. I'll bet money on that.

And the fact that its Biden that Trump was trying to dig up dirt in pretty much irrelevant. If he was doing all this to dig up dirt on Bernie, Warren, Harris, or hell, Marianne Williamson, its still a crime and an absolutely impeachable offense.

Agree wholeheartedly with what LVbri said... This has nothing to do with Biden. Pelosi was looking for a smoking gun that was CLEAR and EASY to explain to the American ppl. Because of Barr and because it was complicated, the Meuller report didn't provide this route. That's why she has been hemming and hawing (I don't want to debate the merits, I'm stating facts.)

This could've been Trump asking for political dirt on any one of the candidates, the fact that there is a fucking whistleblower and a transcript and a "We'd like missiles" - "Yeah, about that, I'd like a favor first" is so fucking obvious that even deep down the durr hurr crowd has a nagging feeling that something fishy was going on. The rest of us are like, yeah, see... This is the shit we've been talking about. Lock him up.

If this had been dirt on AOC, or Pelosi, or Bill Clinton or whoever.. This is still going the impeachment route. Respect anyone's opinion to the contrary, but I just think you're missing the motivation and the underlying vibe in the House Dem Caucus. This is just too obvious for even the most milquetoast moderate to sit on.

Shit, that's solid alliteration.

I'm closer to Degen here. Maybe they still act, but if its Sanders, I bet at a minimum there's some internal calculus on whether and how much this could help him while hurting Trump.

The irony is I think it is actually gonna hurt Biden. Your average Dem voter doesn't realize he has a Trump-level failson. No one's gonna coalesce around Biden.

So was being in violation of the emoluments clause on day 1.

And while I'll concede that this wasn't because of Biden, I'm sure it's a bit more motivating than if it were Bernie or Warren.

I'm sure the whistleblower (whistleblowers?) cares about the nation more than anything.

It probably does help in some regards among the DC 'in crowd' that Biden has been one of them for so many years. They do tend to protect their own.

That said, even before all this came out, I didn't think he was getting the nomination. He's in the Jeb Bush role...someone running because they aren't sure what else they should do, but who's heart (and head) aren't in it. Biden is going to lose Iowa and NH, and then he'll be done.

I'll concede that the pace and fervor *might* have something to do with Trump going after a "beloved" ally of Obama and pillar of the quintessential DC insider crowd.

But I stand by the overall sentiment that the Dem House Caucus has been agitating for this and this was just too glaring for the moderate hem and haw crowd to duck. I mean, to be fair to them, they NEEDED something this clear cut to give them the ammo to go back home and say, yeah, I get that you don't want me doing nothing but taking shots at the Prez... But you want me to ignore THIS SHIT??

My $.02. Pelosi wasn't waiting for something like this to impeach. I think she'd have prefered to not do it at all. I think this time she just finally felt like she had no choice.

I also think it being Biden is a factor. It's a factor for the same reason that idiot is still leading the polls - people have heard of him and generally respond favorably to him. Mostly people who don't pay really close attention to politics. And it might also be a factor that he's a Dem insider in a way that Bernie and Warren aren't. Pelosi is such an establishment, political being that you know that had to be a factor.

I guess I'm wondering what you guys think would happen if Warren was the clear front runner, had been for months (by the time July 2019 rolled around) and had been talked about as the presumptive nominee for most of the spring/summer.

You don't think Pelosi would see that whistleblower memo and the transcript and proceed with impeachment? Really?

I'm not saying Pelosi was sitting around waiting for something. I agree she really appeared to be slow walking it out the door, waiting for the election season to say "we're too close, let's let the American people decide."

But when this Fucking Moron gets on a call with a foreign leader and strong arms into conducting a sham investigation into his political opponent.. There's really nothing more clear cut for impeachment than that phone call. At that point, she was FORCED to make this decision, and I just don't buy the idea that she was protecting Biden or butt-hurt that a fellow insider was the target.

That's a level of cynicism I just can't get behind, even after the last 2.5 years.

This timeline is so fucked that the American public lucked out that Joe Biden's son is such a fucking loser that he embroiled his dad into his shenanigans and, combined with his dad's frontrunner status, forced Trump into asking for favors from said foreign nation where said shenanigans were occurring because Trump cannot see past his own nose to maintain power.

Since every other potential nominee's family isn't filled with Hunter Bidens we would've been fucked.

Well yeah, if you drastically change that one critical fact, my opinion about things would change. The fact that Trump went after the guy who's both the most famous and the current frontrunner almost certainly makes a big difference. I don't think if he'd asked about Andrew Yang we'd have the same attention paid here.

Right, there's also the really important angle here where Trump (and his enabling cronies) continue to try and relitigate the 2016 election, convinced that somehow the conspiracy theories prove that at best Ukraine was involved in similar antics to what Russia was up to on Dem side. (I'm pretty sure Trump, at this point, feels like Russia wasn't involved at all, that it was primarily Ukraine.)

It's also to, in the future, re-direct the narrative on Fox News. Look how insane Hannity went last night. Convincing the base that Ukraine, and not Russia, had a hand in the 2016 election.

If there was no whistleblower, this would be leaked to FOX and boom, a FOX NEWS EXCLUSIVE if and when Biden became the nominee next year.

And then there's this...

Trump Meets With LaPierre to Discuss How N.R.A. Could Support Political Defense
President Trump met in the Oval Office on Friday with Wayne LaPierre, the chief executive of the National Rifle Association, and discussed prospective gun legislation and whether the N.R.A. could provide support for the president as he faces impeachment and a more difficult re-election campaign, according to two people familiar with the meeting.

It was not clear whether Mr. Trump asked Mr. LaPierre for his support, or if the idea was pitched by the N.R.A. During the meeting, Mr. LaPierre asked that the White House “stop the games” over gun control legislation, people familiar with the meeting said.
Umm....wouldn't that qualify as a 'bribe'?
