I agree with all of this, but for both, there is clear cognitive decline. Rudy flat out doesn't make sense in half his interviews, and when he does make sense, he proves Trump's guilt or immoral actions.
Yeah, I agree that the decline in Trump is evident. I’ve tried to avoid any and all exposure to Giuliani for the last 12 years or so and I’m less opinionated as to him.

I heard today they could start the trial and then someone could introduce a motion to dismiss. I don't recall hearing what the voting would need to be for that to pass (majority, 2/3rds?), but it did happen and not pass in 1998.

McConnell also said "there's also no set amount of time to spend on it" which pretty much means he won't stop it coming to the floor, but doesn't mean he/they have to take it all that seriously.

It's all going to come down to what Schiff does in the next couple of weeks. And if Pompeo is any guide, they are going to stonewall and force fines and/or contempt charges and going to jail.

And then there's this...

Shoot Them in the Legs, Trump Suggested: Inside His Border War
Privately, the president had often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh. After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down. That’s not allowed either, they told him.

So, this is kind of embarrassing, but I completely missed whatever Adam Schiff said or did that Trump keeps referring to as a false imitation or whatever.

Acting!
During Maguire’s testimony, Schiff presented a dramatized version of the call between Trump and Zelensky. Schiff noted as he began that he was paraphrasing Trump’s words.

"Shorn of its rambling character and in not so many words, this is the essence of what the president communicates: ‘We've been very good to your country. Very good. No other country has done as much as we have. But you know what? I don't see much reciprocity here. I hear what you want. I have a favor I want from you, though. And I'm going to say this only seven times, so you better listen good. I want you to make up dirt on my political opponent, understand? Lots of it. On this and on that. I’m going to put you in touch with people, not just any people. I’m going to put you in touch with the attorney general of the United States, my attorney general Bill Barr. He’s got the whole weight of the American law enforcement behind him. And I’m going to put you in touch with (presidential attorney) Rudy (Giuliani). You’re going to love him, trust me. You know what I’m asking and so I’m only going to say this a few more times, in a few more ways. And by the way, don’t call me again. I’ll call you when you’ve done what I asked.’

"This is, in sum and character, what the president was trying to communicate with the president of Ukraine. It would be funny if it wasn't such a graphic betrayal of the President's oath of office. But as it does represent a real betrayal, there's nothing the president says here that is in America's interest after all."

Later in the hearing, when Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, pointed out that what Schiff said did not match the readout of the call, Schiff said his summary was "meant to be at least part in parody."

Schiff gives a lot of red meat to the Democratic base but he’s not a very credible messenger to the extent the goal is to increase GOP opposition to Trump (which, admittedly, may not be realistic regardless). Schiff has a pattern of exaggeration which really isn’t necessary with someone as bad as Trump. He almost certainly was the key source for some of the subsequently discredited Russiagate stories and made bold claims about having seen proof of conspiracy that never materialized.

Just a matter of time before the leader of the free world started swearing.

America is still quite liberal on this.

Did you hear about Korean golfer Bio Kim? He flipped the bird to the gallery in Korea and got suspended 3 years! And he has to appear at a press conference to apologize. It's one thing I don't like about Asian culture. The shaming of others.

It'd be nice if his swearing helped persuade a few evangelicals that he isn't God's chosen representative.

Are Pence and his crew doing damage control?

Trump involved Pence in efforts to pressure Ukraine’s leader, though officials say vice president was unaware of allegations in whistleblower complaint

Or else he fits the Dan Quayle stereotype to a T.
White House officials said that Pence likely would have received the detailed notes of the president’s call in his briefing book on July 26.The five-page document also should have been part of the briefing materials he took with him to Warsaw to prepare for the meeting, according to the officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters.

But officials said Pence and his staff weren’t aware that the call had provoked alarm inside the White House — even though his national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, had been monitoring it. It’s also not clear whether Pence failed to read the White House account of the call in his briefing book or read it and found it unremarkable.

I don't really believe this, but I could almost see how someone could believe a conspiracy theory that Trump is trying to destroy the Republican Party from the inside. Sometimes it's the only thing that makes any damn sense.

Isn't the strategy to simply water everything down? If they internally know he fucked up and its beyond covering up, do it again and again and again until it loses its impact. Everything to date hasn't been a big deal because the right refuses to acknowledge its a big deal so this is just a (late started) continuation of the same process.

Sure and that works with his base of loons, but he could say he's the new god emperor of Earth and those dipshits would all say "cool, Trump's emperor of Earth now". It digs the hole deeper for him with everyone else and he's not going to win an election with just his base of loons. I'm here to tell you that people in middle America are finally tired of this bullshit and if he does survive being impeached I'm failing to see a scenario where it isn't a complete washout for the GOP in 2020.

At this point, I'm honestly a little more worried they come to their senses, dump him and put all of the eggs in Pence's basket figuring the MAGA turds will just still show up to vote for anyone who isn't a "libtard".
