I don't see how they can do that and retain Betts. Assuming Martinez doesn't opt out, him, Price, Sale, Bogaerts and Eovaldi alone are over $110MM.

At least y'all got a World Series before the Dombrowski bill came due.

I was hoping this was gonna be about Theo coming back to Boston.

I thought this was a good article about how stupid it would be to trade Betts: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/9/13 ... ski-firing and this was a nice quote:
Because while dumping their best player to meet arbitrary financial goals would certainly be a festive way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Babe Ruth sale, it shouldn’t be Plan A.
The only reason I would trade him if it's discovered he hates Boston and wants out no matter how much money they throw at him, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

You see, having had teams in most sports that aren’t competitive i am used to not winning. I think winning once but then losin again for a while is palatable.

If you win four titles in 12 years, you can even find yourself relegating a team to a secondary rooting interest in some (admittedly rare) circumstances.

Pretty nice night for JV. He also set some strikeout milestones (his wife was in attendance).

I’m guessing Martinez gets moved for a good, young SP this off season.

If I was running the M's, I would give Joe Maddon a blank check and say 'fill in how much you need to come here', and then tell Scott Servais 'Yeah...I think we'll go with the guy who got Tampa to the World Series and won it with the Cubs'.

But since I'm not running the M's, I'm sure that won't happen.

I’d do that with my own team, too. But they’re gonna stay with the rape apologist because this is at worst a .500 season.

This is turning into a far-more-consequential-than-usual GM hire.

Even more than I'll end up hating when the players are gone, I currently hate how these clowns feels like they have to grease the skids for the inevitable with this shitty infomercial tour of their bank statements. Sell your dumb soccer team.

Do you work for the Angel's?
Angels have fired Ausmus after 1 season in order to hire Madden.

The move I wished for the Tigers the last time Maddon became available.

The last Boston team to lose a game at home in regulation is the Red Sox

I don't know if that is a more amazing or appalling fact. Both, I guess.

Well Baseball wins over international sanctions. US gave license to the Venezuelan winter league. So MLBers can play ball.

Schott was still around for all the major collusion cases so maybe Cincinnati's punishment for her existence was agreeing to take the outlier contract hits the next time MLB wanted to suppress salaries?

Don't care. Don't care X 1,000,000 that Moustakas is an overpay or that Wheeler will be for someone. Genuinely, do. not. care. After (checks notes) an ENTIRE LIFETIME of the Reds not trying in free agency or spending on really anyone, all while crying poverty, I am delighted to see them trying. I could not care less about Bob Castellini's finances or if the contract is good or bad. Spend money to try and get better. Fine by me.

Wheeler is either going to be a great signing or a complete disaster. I see no option for the middle.

$23.6MM over 5 years for Wheeler is either going to be a great signing or a complete disaster. I see no option for the middle.

I think Moustakas was a better indicator. A pitcher like Wheeler has to get real money, even a semi-colluded market, no?

Also, score another one for GMBVD, who held onto a $100MM walk-year pitcher in order to finish 3rd. Only way he could top this now is by trading for a HS racist former-client whose social media he never thought to wipe clean.

I guess? If this was last year's market, I would say...no. Wheeler's health history would have been enough of a flag last year to slow down bidding I think - even if teams think he is on the cusp of going nuclear now.

I think he's a pretty solid comp to Corbin, atleast close enough to be in that upper tier UFA that still gets paid. Its the everyone else bucket that got fucked super hard.
