Gonna be hilarious when the Angels miss the postseason every year with the best pitcher AND the best position player in the American League every year.

(Best pitcher being very clearly debatable but go with it for the purposes of the joke.)

Dylan Bundy? He’s an Angels pitcher now.

Based on the size of this deal and Lerner’s comments last week, it looks like Rendon will be playing elsewhere next year.

Its kinda funny that "Strasburg becomes highest paid pitcher in 2020" would have been less surprising 10 years ago than today.

Most of the money is probably deferred until after the apocalypse, but still gotta think they're gonna be regretting this deal even before Strasburg's fourth TJ surgery in 2025.

Perhaps I'm an old, but $1m/start?!?

Good thing teams are saving money on minor league teams, and taxpayers are paying for stadia.

The Yankees are going to make an obscene amount of revenue no matter what. It can go to players or it can go to ownership. This is good.

That is an excellent, cogent, and self-serving quote.

I think 29 baseball teams should spend like mad and Boston should definitely trade Mookie Betts for some A ball pitchers because the luxury tax is punitive and they definitely shouldn't pay it.

The Cincinnati Reds have never had a Japanese player, a streak that will apparently end very soon this season. They were the last MLB team to have never fielded a Japanese player.

(Not saying anything shady about it. More of just an interesting factoid. Someone was going to be last some day after the first Japanese player (whom sadly I don't have an idea was).

I thought it was Nomo, looked it up, and not only is it not Nomo, I've never heard of the guy. I consider myself a pretty decent baseball historian, even before I was born, so this is a little surprising.

Reds, Nick Castellanos agree on four-year, $64M deal.

Are the Reds the favorite in the NL Central now? They have to be close if they are not.

ETA: I wonder if this increases the chances of the Reds including Senzel in a deal for Lindor.

The Reds and Indians share a spring training complex, so it seems they have a good relationship. And they've made trades together over the years, such as Dave Burba for Sean Casey, Danny Graves and change for John Smiley and change, and a couple of three-team trades involving Trevor Bauer and Shin-Soo Choo.

Yeah, not really a rivalry . If the reds pay a high enough price I guess it could happen.

Weird to see the Reds making good use of free agency and trying.

Curtis Granderson retired today. One of my favorite Tigers of all-time. Legendarily nice dude (got to meet him after a game thanks to a mutual friend whom Rams Fanny knows. Curtis is a big-time wrestling fan.).

Only player in MLB history to hit 60+ homers for both the Mets and Yankees. Also, only player in MLB history to have 23 or more triples and homers in a season.
