2019-2020 NHL Season

Post by brian »

Let’s start this season off with the VGK and Sharks ringing up 100+ PIM in a (checks notes) preseason game.

All of them (except 2) in the last two periods.

Gonna be a fun season.

Also, how many games will Evander Kane get suspended for slashing an official?

NHL rulebook says minimum of 3 games, but the NHL will find a way to hem and haw its way down to only one or two I'll bet.

He's going to go for shoving him, not the slash (which, while dickish, was not directed at the ref)

5 games. NHL takes AOO seriously, and they should.

He was gated for "abusing an official" so it better be at least the 3. Keeps him out of the first two games against VGK, where he can't goon it up as usual at least.

Rough day for black wingers in the NHL.

(Josh Ho-Sang, who badly needs off the Islanders, somehow cleared waivers.)

Still more than six hours from puck drop and tonight's Sharks/Golden Knights game is already the most wagered-on regular season game in NHL history per LV Superbook.

Legal phone-based sports gambling in Indiana goes live....tomorrow.

I'm excited to lose some money on puck lines this year.

When they visit Las Vegas, lots of people take the opportunity to drop a buck or two on their favorite team from back home. One thing about the NHL now being in Las Vegas and the NFL coming soon, too. The lines on Las Vegas teams probably get skewed because of local money bet on the local team. That was always a fact to some extent regarding Los Angeles teams, but I assume this might affect lines to a much greater degree.

It is. It does. Generally speaking fading the VGK is smart. That said it is going to be beyond a playoff atmosphere tonight. This place is lit and it’s only the pre-game skate.

The look on Cody Glass’s face after scoring his 1st NHL goal in his first game is what sports is all about. That was cool getting to see that. (His shift two minutes into the game was the first time a VGK draft pick played in a game.)

Up until an hour before gametime, Erik Karlsson was expected to play last night. He was then scratched for "personal reasons". No more detail yet.

Been refreshing Twitter to figure out what's up. Didn't him and his wife lose a child a year or two ago? I hope it isn't something like that again.

Yeah, they had a stillborn child. Then, there was the whole issue regarding his wife (allegedly) being harassed online by Mike Hoffman's girlfriend. Then, his injury. Hope this is not a huge issue.

They’ll give that up after a couple weeks.

Avs vs. Flames is an entertaining game. (Flipping back and forth with the NFL game and the MLB game.)

Bolts are the opposite apparently. 7 opening wins in a row and the best opening game win percentage in the league. 18-7-2 all time .702%

I thought they were gonna dodge the trap that a lot of teams fall into after winning a Cup by just locking up almost everyone with no regard to continuing to build for the future when they let Maroon walk, but apparently not.

They've lived in that trap, just stayed in it believing it helped win the Cup I guess.

It seems that with a certain segment of a fan base, no player is as popular as the one you let go.

With Joe Pavelski, I certainly understand the emotion and sentiment. I feel it too. He was a great Shark. But, it was also a business decision I can get behind.

But, last night Joonas Donskoi was credited with two goals for the Avalanche and some people are howling about letting him go. That's just stupid. He had lots of chances with the Sharks and never lived up to his salary, which went further up with the Avs. (And his two goals last night? One was somebody else's shot that grazed his chest and went in. The other was an empty net.)

There's always a tendency to overreact to the first few games also. Can't really get a feel for much until about 15-20 games into a season.
