I have to admit here I was doing this against Correa and Springer and somehow forgot all about Bregman. Bregman is better / more valuable.
Correa would fetch a mint in return.

Oh absolutely, I was approaching it as “if Houston can sneak past Tampa, would I rather they lost Cole or Correa heading into the Yankees series” and it was Cole. But it would have been Bregman, no doubt, had I not been an idiot.

As good as Bregman is, you can pitch around him / never give into him. Cole ruins your team’s confidence in itself to score runs. I’d do anything for Sevy to turn into what Cole is on the precipice of becoming.

I love Doolittle so much. It’s such an obvious statement but also one that 49 in 50 players who think it won’t actually say.

This is true.

But fans never want it open during the playoffs for the crowd noise. We were pissed in 2005 when they made us leave it open.

Also, Correa is not going to be an Astro much longer. He's got some really serious back issues it seems. He's been garbage at the plate.

Yeah, them not having to use a 4th starter and our pen losing a rest day would be some real double shit. I assume in the playoffs you don't have the same flexibility as the regular season in pushing up start times for known future weather.

And no double headers in the playoffs.

All dictated by TV.

I'm not sure the Astros can really ram their 3-man rotation through four straight days of games if that's what it comes to, but it does give them much better options for pitching all 3 on their normal rest. As for the Yankees, yeah, it's a potential disaster and it means a whole lot is riding on Tanaka.

Or a bullpen game for the Yankees. Happ starts supported by Green and Sabathia.

Paxton's available sooner too. He could pitch a Thursday game 4. And Tanaka game 5.

Depends if Hinch wants to run Verlander out on short rest again. Otherwise they’re stuck using a 4th SP regardless, no?

Oh - Nevin sending DJL last night was the biggest missed opportunity of the game. Verlander was at 99 pitches, and he’d thrown what, 20 pitches that inning? Despite Buck’s proclamation that it was too good of an opportunity to pass up, I suggest Hinch might’ve gone to the pen instead of relying on JV at 100+ to faces Sanchez. Oh yeah, and the fact Correa nailed DJL at the plate by 15 feet isn’t a testament to how great of a play he made. EVERY SS throws him out right there. Just a boneheaded send.

They've said Sabathia can only go a batter or three, his knee and shoulder are both barely hanging on at this point.

If Wednesday is rained out, Greinke goes Thursday and Verlander on Friday, both on 4 days. That would set up Cole on short rest / travel and then I imagine an all-hands-but-Cole game on Sunday. No matter what, there would be short rest somewhere, but the games following the schedule would force the issue in G4 versus G6.

From 3rd base it probably looked like the ball went further off Altuve, even into the outfield. Depth perception. Got to send him with 2 outs.

Look at the replay. That ball wasn’t going to make it to the OF, and Correa was shifted behind 2B. Altuve botched the play, and the ball rolls towards just behind the 2B bag. Correa picks it up and nails DJL at the plate with ease, because DJ started the play at 2B.

Nevin let JV out of the bag on that one.

For sure, but this one was a lot closer to a Houston must have. The back end of the series was always going to be where NY would be closer to the advantage.

Exactly—it’s still possible to go up 3-2 and force Cole to pitch Game 6 (which is a pretty reasonable way to attack the series), but they gave up 2 chances to make that easier.
