NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
If there is already a thread...sorry but season tips off next week.
some thoughts
1.) Terps are overrated. I like the team but #7/#8 ranking will not be where this team ends up. Guessing high teens...hope they prove me wrong
2.) Anthony Edwards....if he is not nicknamed "goose" "ER" "Dr. Greene" or "Gilbert"... Georgia fans should be shamed (does Georgia have any basketball fans?).
3.) Any news on the personal reason Beilein resigned from Niagara? if you type in his name and rumors you get stories of infidelity...student?

Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
Nice way to start the college hoops season on ESPN at MSG. Starts at 7pm (Yeah I will probably try to find Holy Cross v. Maryland instead)
3 v. 4 (Kansas v. Duke)
1 v. 2 (Michigan State v. Kentucky)

Dug into the Beilein resignation when it happened last month due to the MI connection. Given the language used, it seems a lot more like a substance abuse issue than cheating with a student. Something about taking time to work on life issues... He also suffered some kind of back issue which had people thinking it was an opioid-related addiction.

I am very interested to see how good Wiseman is.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
It's definitely a bit of a mystery still. They've held him out of the exhibitions so far with an assortment of minor ailments. So there hasn't been any chance to get an initial feel for him with this group of players. He is supposed to be good to go now, so the wraps come off this week.
Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
Its not exceptionally creative but I believe Michigan State wins in April.
How long have you been a Black quaterback?
Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
Michigan State won't win crap. I doubt they even win the Big Ten. Most people don't realize Tom Izzo quit coaching up his players about a decade ago and at this point any success MSU has typically is in spite of him, not because of him.

Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
Early season CBB scares me from a betting perspective.
Unless you've got some kind of inside info (and that's not snarky -- sometimes you can pick good stuff up from the local fishwraps if the reporting is good enough), you're just throwing darts at a dartboard with most of these teams. MSU could beat Kentucky by 20 or vice versa and it won't mean too much come time for the conference season. I generally like to fade coaches like Izzo who don't seem to do a good job developing talent early in the season though. I'd lump Calipari in that bucket for the most part, so I'm definitely staying away from this game.

Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
I think MSU wins tonight, possibly easily. Calipari is obviously a great recruiter and he gets his players to play hard and buy in defensively. But UK has tremendously underperformed on offense given the talent level because he micromanages and they run such conventional stuff. Not being able to win a title with Devin Booker and Karl-Anthony Towns, or even make the Final Four with PJ Washington and Tyler Herro, looks pretty bad in retrospect considering how good those guys all are in the NBA.

On this we can agree. I know he and corso are the elder statesmen but both are hard to listen to these days.

Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
Level of play is pretty gross in these two opening night games. Kansas is the only team of the four shooting over 36% and they committed a million turnovers.

Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
I don’t care if it’s opening night. A combined 16-52 shooting from the field is pretty terrible for teams ranked 1 + 2 in the country. As was Kansas committing 18 first half turnovers against Duke. It’s pretty hard to turn the ball over nearly once per minute with a 30 second shot clock!

Wiseman went for 28 and 11 in 22 minutes - so that debut was pretty okay. 3 blocks and the 28 points came on 11 of 14 from the floor.
Re: NCAA Hoops 2019/2020
More importantly, on a scale of 1-to-Draymond, how much are we going to hate him when he’s on the Warriors next year?tennbengal wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 8:58 am Wiseman went for 28 and 11 in 22 minutes - so that debut was pretty okay. 3 blocks and the 28 points came on 11 of 14 from the floor.

As a Grizzlies fan, I am already zero'd in on Maxey with Kentucky as a running mate with Ja or the Edwards kid from Georgia.

Really looking forward to Syracuse's very young guards dealing with the Virginia defense tonight. Should be an educational experience.

With 20-game regular season schedule, gotta play all those games sometime.

20-game conference schedule this year and you gotta promote the ACC Network somehow. I look forward to the outcry in a couple seasons when they stick a Duke-Carolina game on there to get everyone to push their providers to carry the network.
Inexperienced guards + relying on three-point shooting X Virginia defense = worst Syracuse point total since WWII. Boeheim was still coach in that other game.

Hardaway made a donation to memphis in 2008 so wiseman is ineligible now. Makes sense, as always, NCAA.

Didn't know but a 20 game ACC schedule is a monster. In the right year you could easily have really good 8-12 teams.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 9:44 am20-game conference schedule this year and you gotta promote the ACC Network somehow. Wiseman is playing tonight, by the way. Thank the lawyers once again for saving sports, if not society itself
