So the Hoyas are on a 4 game win streak since losing players.

oh and DC police made no arrests, and closed the case

So, he couldn't come up with that $11,500 for restitution? Color me surprised.

I don't think that's it, but who knows. My theory is that after all this shit that happened he probably didn't want to go through the motions of taking second semester classes and just figured he had cemented his draft position well enough by the few games he played.

Oh, I agree. Jumping though the NCAA's bullshit is a waste of fucking time. He can now sign with an agent and shift into training for the draft, which is probably just as good as playing at all but the most dominating level.

Everybody's fanbase has their own weird thing that they obsess about, but never gets mentioned outside their fanbase. UNLV's is that they're the only team in the NCAA to have hit a three-pointer in every game they've played (amongst teams that were around when the 3-pointer was adopted). Once they go through the first-half without hitting a three, the beat writers and the fans start to obsess on Twitter if this is the end of the streak.

North Florida leads the NCAA in threes attempted and made and the 2-3 zone encourages threes, but I didn't expect 46 of UNF's 55 shots last night against Syracuse to be threes.

Between the two big holidays, I got to see Dayton play in person (their arena is fantastic, way better in person than on television - they recently completed a $70 million renovation). While facing an undersized opponent affected my opinion, the NBA player Obi Toppin reminded me of was Amare Stoudemire. His teammates were aiming to get him dunks for a large portion of the second half (he obliged), but some of the other skills are there, as well.

Kentucky Shot 50% last night. From the field, from 3 and from the free throw line. The last two are secere anomalies, as this is generally a poor 3 point team and a great FT shooting team.

The Baylor inbounds play to break the press last night was great especially after they just compared the opposing coach to Belichick.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this for a bit now. There were Camby and Lamar Odom in the late 90s, but I can't think of an A-10 player this century who seemed like a lock to be a legit player at the next level. Usually our best players are "A-10 great", like Andrew Nicholson, or are 4 year guys who fit a rotation like Jameer Nelson or David West. Toppin, both athleticism and skillset, looks can't miss.

North Florida doesn't play anyone taller than 6'7" and one of their two starters at that height is a skinnier, stretch four-type. They had no chance of slowing Toppin down. He just seemed more interested in getting his teammates going and being part of a team instead of showing out. He's been their top scorer just twice in their last 10 games. The athleticism at that size was striking, particularly when he elevated.

You’re underselling David West! I saw him play live when he was on Xavier and he was really, really good. He also had a damn good NBA career. Much more than just a rotation player for most of his career. Arguably better than Camby or Odom even.

I think your standard all-A-10 level player is either extremely skilled and lacking major conference athleticism or super athletic but lacking the major conference skill (versus Toppin who combines the two). Like in terms of guys who atleast temporarily made the jump, Nicholson was the former and someone like Cleanthony Early would be the latter. My memory of West is far closer Nicholson or Lou Roe made good versus a guy like Camby where you knew he was going to be in the league a long time. It could just be personal bias, but I would have bet on college Posey making it way more strongly than college West.

Speaking of the A-10, big win for Rutgers yesterday. Here's a good trivia question next time you're hanging out with some friends:

What conference was Rutgers in the last time it made the NCAA Tournament? (yes, it was the A-10 in 1991).

I'm curious to see what happens if Rutgers ever gets good at something. They get local news coverage, but I don't think I've ever heard a real human being talk about Rutgers mens basketball or football.

Still, the most interesting thing today was watching Syracuse try to score more points in OT than they had done in regulation.

They didn’t quite get there, but they did score more points in OT then the entire second half!

Went to the Nevada - Colorado State game last night. Ended up being a fantastic game...final score in the 90's with no OT and a home-team buzzer beater. What was interesting to me was the students storming the court...I'm not sure a conference matchup between unranked teams warrants the rush:

Hey Duke and UNC. Maybe one of the teams should wear a color other than blue. Doesn't the NCAA and the TV networks have rules for this shit.

I'm interested in how the officials called things last night, as they usually use a monosyllabic color as a notifier when making calls (in a rec league, we wore maroon uniforms, but were always identified as "red" on calls). Maybe blue for UNC and black for Duke?

I gotta think that at this level, the refs can just go with team names instead of colors. This isn't the Y league.

BTW, that game was just nuts. Duke worked their way out of seemingly insurmountable odds in the last minute of both regulation and overtime. That had to really hurt for those Carolina kids who've had a really tough season.

Looking at those uniforms last night, are you sure?

The sad part is that Duke rolled out the best uniforms they’ve ever had earlier this year. And UNC has no shortage of cool throwbacks they could wear.

Fair point. It did look like they were playing in practice jerseys.
