Vlogs
I've been spending way too much time on YouTube watching travel and food videos.
It's something in English I can watch together with my wife. Currently I like these two.
US Air Force Veteran from Seattle.
Girl from San Francisco
There are tons of others. Many are quitting their jobs to do this.

Re: Vlogs
I know what you're getting at - I one told my students that once someone turned 18, you couldn't call them a girl.
but you see, I turn 56 in a few days, and anyone under 30 seems like a boy or a girl to me, so mea culpa, sorry if I offended you.

It's DSafetyGuy and DSafetyGirl. Simmons used to (and may still) go with Sports Guy and Sports Gal.
I think I have appropriately illustrated how horrible "gal" is.

I think that adult males need to phase it out of their vocabulary for non children. I wasn't trying to be an asshole, but I think there should be an active effort and "I'm 56" isn't a good excuse. I've called out co-workers and friends and even myself mid-talk to a group of assembled miners. So I don't have much issue calling out an internet friend.

Re: Vlogs
?? I let it slip and corrected myself immediately. It was along the lines of "If you have questions, the girls in the office...excuse me, the ladies in the office...have all the information as well." And it was several years ago and I don't recall making the mistake a whole bunch but I'm sure I have as well. I just try to be aware of it is all.
(Or was that a miner/minor joke?)

Re: Vlogs
I've learned to not even use ladies in the workplace. Always use names, you get a lot more respect. "If you have any questions, Annette and Lauren can help you get the information". Especially if Annette and Lauren can hear you.A_B wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:36 am?? I let it slip and corrected myself immediately. The worse is "these guys". My lead will look at three women in a meeting and say "these guys are in charge of that".

Re: Vlogs
I say "guys" every now and then, and catch myself.
I once asked my soccer team if it bugged them and they just shrugged. "C'mon guys!" didn't really register.
I know it's different in the workplace and I don't remember the last time it happened in this setting. But I don't think it's perceived to be a truly offensive turn of phrase.

I agree with your point, just surprised at how strongly you feel about it. And I go to client's worksites and teach a course called Respect in the Workplace about being more aware of shit like this. Eh, as I typed this, I switched "girls" to a demeaning tone in my head, and I get it. I wasn't thinking of it in that tone at first.A_B wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:31 am I think that adult males need to phase it out of their vocabulary for non children. Re: Vlogs
It's probably irrational but pet peeves are sometimes. Pruitt certainly didn't mean it in any demeaning way (and I should have been more clear about that initially), which is the way that I think it comes across in a professional setting. The Sybian wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 3:41 pmI agree with your point, just surprised at how strongly you feel about it. I've only ever been to OEB breakfast. Never even heard of the other places.
Might take the wife to Lulu Bar soon. She wants those Lobster Dumplings.
