I'm legitimately surprised by this. Not that they were going to make the playoffs or they weren't going to at the end of the season, but it seems odd to just cut him off with 4 weeks less unless he told the owner to go fuck himself.

He was probably on borrowed time as soon as they transferred ownership and management of the franchise. But, yeah, why not wait until the end of the season?

Based on the reaction from my Charlotte-based colleagues, his firing was overdue. I'm seeing a lot of dancing and celebratory icons and GIFs in Slack.

Perry Fewell gets his chance to climb the wins leaderboard for NFL interim head coaches. He's already got three (he went 3-4 in 2009 after the Bills canned Dick Jauron).

Gives them a head start if they're thinking Jim Harbaugh or Lincoln Riley (or Matt Rhule, etc.). That's really the only reason though.

Silly. I think he's a good coach and the teams play mostly speaks for itself. You don't do a longtime coach like that in week 14. For what?

Agreed. But there's gonna be a lot of suitors for Lincoln Riley starting as soon as Sunday. That's for what.

Lincoln Riley was born in 1983. When the fuck did coaches get considerably younger than me?

And like many of you, I have only one active player in the big four still older than me since Big Sexy probably isn't walking through that door.

He'll be working again soon.

Browns certainly will be in the market in a few weeks.

Remember though that his nickname was ironic at first? He was one of the most conservative coaches around and then when his job was in jeopardy 4 years ago or so, he started going for it on 4th down.

Is job title is "color analyst," so why suspend him for commenting on a QB's color? It's in his job title, FFS.

I thought this was the Tim Ryan who called CBS NFL games from in the 70s until God knows when.

You may now know that this guy played for the Bears in the 90s. But, I bet you didn't know that, per wiki, he is Southern California's all-time leading tackler.

Unless one of those teams start showing something in the next few weeks, the NFC East team will be about a six or seven point dog.
