Eh, I think a black dude with that resume has a better chance than a white dude where you swap Patriots with Jets.

I could/should look it up but I don't think a black head coach as ever been hired in the NFL without at least being an offensive or defensive coordinator in the NFL (or a head coach at the college level). I thought maybe Tomlin, but he had been a DC for one year at Minnesota before being hired.

Wait, are you talking about Flores? I suppose it's definitely fair to say he's a person of color, but he's not black.

(But I concede the point. It's good there's been someone of color with such a shaky resume to get hired as a HC.)

Well Brian Flores (not white) went

Scouting assistant, pro scot, ST assistant, assistant coach O/ST, D assistant, Safties, LB coach, then defensive play-caller (not DC) then head coach. All of these aside from HC was with the Patriots.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

He's Garinagu which is indigenous/African so he's probably considered more black than Hispanic or whatever

Not hiring qualified African-Americans/persons of color and placing way too much faith in the Belichick coaching tree are probably the two biggest issues with NFL HC hires, so I guess it's fun to see how that Flores hire is gonna turn out.

I don;t know if Rhule will be a good NFL coach, but if this screws over Baylor, than I am all for the hire.

We don't know how it'll go with Tua or whatever, but he had that team buying in after that first few weeks of getting crushed, and he and the FO did a good job of spinning off assets to get those additional 1sts.

I wasn't a fan of the other guys in the league from the tree when they were with the Pats (I was actually glad to see Patricia go) but I liked what Flores did with the Pats and have liked what he's done in Miami so far.

Wonder the deal in bringing in Chan gailey. Reeks of someone saying you must fire your known guy to bring in their out of football guy. But Grier has to be Flores guy or else he never gets that job. Still not sure if Flores or Grier have ever worked with gailey since both were at the pats their whole career before Miami. And I have no clue what a garinigu is. You just listen to the guy to figure out if they're more Hispanic, carribean, African or American variety of black.

I have no idea whether Stefanski, the new Browns coach will be any good. (Although there has been a pattern...)

But it is just so Brown that two candidates who were in line for the job (Stefanski and 49ers DC Robert Saleh) "faced off" on the weekend and the Vikings looked brutally overmatched.

The season 3 premier will actually start closer to 10 pm east coast on Showtime, but this show is (ahem...) money. It’s like a Wall Street/30 Rock/Goldberg’s mash-up that sounds gimmicky but is worth your time if you haven’t seen it. Casey Wilson is the scene-stealer of scene stealers.

Lovie knew he was gone. So he went for two and said screw you to the Texans to lose that #1 overall. May be his second best win for the Bears.

Did anyone (outside of the Smith households) think this was a long term hire?

Since leaving the Bears, he's posted a record of 28-76 in college and the pros.

This still may not meet your definition of long-term, but I personally didn't expect them (even them) to fire a second coach in a row after one season.

So Sean McVay is going to hang it up for a bit right? Obviously he will move to a studio show or similar (which he will do great at), figure out how comfortable a life that is and never coach again. I wonder how much of this has to do with newly married family life. Coaching life is tough (see Andy Reid), but that makes the reign of Belichick, Harbaugh and Tomlin more impressive. Add in Carroll and Reid and you don't have other coaches with more than 10 years. Next group is a handful of 6 year coaches.

It really is odd - kind of like the Colts and their QB plans over the last few seasons. Just throwing stop gaps in the mix.

They promoted Lovie last year to cover their asses. As a Cover-Two maven (although he doesn't exclusively coach and use it), he is not a long-term answer at head coach for anyone with how the game, particularly offensive scheme, has evolved in the last 15 years. If they're ever going to try to get serious about drafting and developing a QB, they have to get an offensive-minded head coach (whether or not it's Josh McNown, which almost certainly won't happen since Easterby got run out).

The fact that it was two coaches in two years is secondary. David Culley really got wronged the first time. I seriously doubt Lovie had any questions about what he was dealing with, especially since he was Culley's DC.

So will the Cardinals be paying Kingsbury until after the 2027 season, or would there have been some provision that in case of dismissal the year after he's extended, there's a buy out?

According to PFT, 2027 was an option year, so guaranteed through 2026. I feel like coaches usually have offset language though that if they get another head coaching job, college or pro, that there's usually some kind of buyout. Rhule went through some of that when Nebraska hired him last month so the Panthers got rid of some of the money on his ridiculous extension.

No news from Indianapolis, but I found this to be a fun quote...

(from PFT)
“If I get this job, there’s going to be significant change. . . . The way I do things is not the way it’s been done,” Saturday said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

I think it's more of an offset than a buyout. Not that they can't negotiate a buyout, but that NFL contracts generally have offset clauses. Most NCAAFB contracts don't. All hail Jimmy Sexton.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
