NFL Off-season 2020

Re: the murmurings that Tua is leaning toward going back to Alabama - that would feel like a very ill-advised decision to me. Assuming he is still a top 10 pick in this year’s draft, and most every indication is that he would be - then I can’t fathom, even with insurance, why he would risk further injury in college.

Even ignoring that, why rehab at a college you’re leaving in a year versus with a professional franchise invested in you long term?

Yeah I think that’s the bigger sell for Tua. If you assume he’ll be a top 10 pick, there’s not much to gain by staying in school even if he was guaranteed to not get injured.

the Tagovailoas are very unconventional which is why I think him staying is a larger possibility than it is for 99% of other QBs in his situation

Once the Pats get bounced from the playoffs, expect an onslaught of "Brady to the...." to start. Probably the Chargers.

Congratulations to Steelers fans for appearing on Hard Knocks 2020.

(Only eligible teams this year are Jacksonville, Denver, Arizona, Detroit and Pittsburgh. Hard to imagine HBO passes up the chance to choose Pittsburgh.)

Wait, so we won’t get Patricia preaching about “attitude”, “culture”, and “accountability”?

I don't think the Lions are a big national sell.

Tua doing the sane thing and hitting the draft. Which is GREAT news for the Lions - they are in a prime spot if they want to trade out should a bidding war develop over teams wanting to move up for Tua.

Or they can draft Tua just to make themselves more attractive to HBO!

I've also heard the scenario where teams looking to trade up might target Washington to get Tua, which is fine (and means Lions would absolutely take Chase Young).

Also, worth noting any deal the Lions do would presumably have to include ALL 2020 draft assets since the GM and coach are one 8-8 or worse season from being on the unemployment lines, so the Lions trading down from that pick isn't as likely as it would otherwise seem.

Does anyone need a DC? Looks like the Rams are parting ways with Wade.

It would have to be a shitload to take Chase Young away from Washington.

I’ve been hearing rumors about this but appears it’s a thing. Do not count on the Raiders playing in Vegas next year.

Was that the place near the Wynn/Encore?

I remember being at the pool at the Encore and there was a blinding light coming off one of the nearby buildings.

No, it was part of CityCenter, the Aria and the associated condos and shopping around there. It was supposed to be another hotel/condo tower, but the contractor fucked something up and they had to demolish it because it was unstable. It's possible it could have been saved but MGM didn't want to try and sell more condos since the project started before the housing meltdown so it was a big legal fight. Long story.

Luke Keuckley retires? Didn’t see that.

ETA: probably should have. Injury history. Regime change.

I liked Brady for exactly as long as it took to go from the headline to the end of the first paragraph.

“Report: Tom Brady 'embarrassed' by salary, plans to move out of New England”

If you told me an NFL star in his late 20s was retiring Kuechly would have been one of my first guesses.

If I had to make a wild guess for the future (and he didn't have to be a star) for a surprise retirement it would be John Ross.

That game where Kuechley was concussed and the medical staff took off his helmet leading the viewer to see exactly how a concussed face contorts is something that made people go "Holy shit. This is how CTE develops." That's unfortunately how I'll remember his career.

For some reason the first thing I think of with Keuchly was this play from college where it looked like he was the one who actually called it in:

I keep thinking Sterling Shepard is going to retire this offseason. Same deal with concussions this season plus regime change. He seems to love football though.

I'm coming off my earlier hot take about Burrow - he's easily the best QB in this draft and I'd take him #1 even with the fear that he might be Jared Goff on a better college team.

The fact the NFL and PA still does stuff like this after the Robert Edwards injury playing flag on the beach amazes me. Not that the risk is high but the upside does not outweigh the potential issues..i mean ESPN had a headline today that Mostert's deal prohibits him from surfing.

That’s better than his previous ten deals which apparently prohibited him from playing football.

That must be a team thing because I cannot imagine a GM thinking "we NEED to make sure Mostert protects himself off the field!".
