He didn’t trust Garoppolo to run the 2 minute drill.

Chiefs with Mahomes are an absolutely electric come from behind team.

Not red Gatorade? Plot twist. I was looking forward to the color gradient compared to the uniforms.

Also... Andy Reid is known as Big Red? Since fucking when, Aikman?

1) Congrats Bronto - a long time coming.

2) The 49ers clock management at the end of the 1st half was idiotic.

3) That 4th quarter was insane.

Yeah, you gotta be kidding me being in that type of shape at age 50. Shakira too, at 43.

As for the game itself, I made my jokes at Shanahan when I texting with friends last night but he’s viewed differently if Kittle doesn’t push off before halftime (I think he would’ve made the play anyway without a pretty blatant PI) or if Garoppolo doesn’t overthrow Sanders when he was open deep with 1:40 left.

It took them 3.5 quarters but Reid/Bienemy finally cracked SF’s defense and dialed up two deep shots, to Hill and then Watkins, which obviously were both huge plays. I guess you could count the play where Kelce got interfered with in the end zone as a third such play. I thought it was a great comeback and great game overall.

First time in a very long time where I wasn't actively rooting for/against a team... What a great Super Bowl. I know it wasn't mistake free, but it sure held your attention the entire way. Some great plays on both sides of the ball, no real referee fuck-ups.

I loved the HT show, but I'm a JLo mark. She doesn't look a day past 30. And Shakira still has it going at 43.

Considering the shitshow that was NFL officiating this year, that was also a very, very well officiated game. I didn't see anything wrong with the way they called it.

I think it's such a crazy coincidence that once Andy Reid doesn't have a particularly conservative QB, he suddenly isn't a particularly conservative playcaller.

Well, aside from that obvious missed delay of game penalty at the end, yes. Would've just been 4th and 15 and probably not a conversion, but that was bad.

I don't think it was missed. There's typically about a second grace period -- Pereira I think even noted that on the broadcast at the time.

But yeah all the Andy Reid stuff was largely because McNabb and particularly Alex Smith would not take the shots that he gave them. McNabb was definitely a good QB despite all the hem hawing from Rush Limbaugh types but he was turnover averse and Alex Smith thought that waiting for a deep route to develop caused cancer. That just makes your time management look worse than it is since they can put together long methodical drives that take forever to move the ball.

My favorite was the like 12 minute drive against the Patriots in 2015 or whatever year it was that they lost to them in the playoffs. I probably put a lot of that on Reid when in reality it's almost all Alex Smith.

And thanks y'all. I'm still not sure that this is real. I was convinced after the second pick that it was over -- a very similar feeling I had while at Game 4 of the 2015 ALDS before the Royals' comeback.

The parallels between the 2015 Royals and 2019/20 Chiefs are eerie.

The moment that the limitations of the Chiefs' offense pre-Mahomes were evident was the season opener in 2017 when the Chiefs beat the Patriots. Smith finally went downfield often (with success!) and it wasn't like those shots were there just for the first time. It was just the first time that he took them on a regular basis.

Smith got too much shit too. He was a perfectly fine quarterback in a hot take era where you're either bad or great and there's no in-between. He fit squarely in that in-between and won't get the credit he deserves for where the Chiefs are at this point. But yes, he did have some limitations; and those are especially evident now with his replacement becoming the best QB in the league.

I've seen that a LOT in both the NFL (which I actually caught more random games this year than I've watched in probably 5 years combined) and in the NCAA. Lots of times where I was saying delay of game but obviously wasn't called and figured it must be some kind of TV to real-time glitch or something.

I've always assumed it's not truly 0 until a full second after it hits 0. They should just do the clocks like basketball and there wouldn't be the misunderstanding.

It's definitely zero when it hits zero. When it flips to 1, that means there's one second left. A second later it flips to zero. Nothing complicated about it at all.

That spinny think that the Chiefs did pre-snap on the first 4th down conversion was really cool. Fucking Friday Night Lights shit.

Was derived from the Mad Magician's era of Michigan Football. They ran that play (they shifted, didn't do the do wop group spin move we saw last night) at the 1949 Rose Bowl against USC.

Maybe it should be that way, but it isn't. I've seen announcers mention that numerous times in games. They wait a full second after it hits zero to blow the whistle. Not sure what the point is, why add a subjective measure to infuriate people on the most objective measure of all, a fucking running clock!.

I've often wondered why NFL clocks (both game and play) don't have tenths of seconds. It's not exactly like that's some advanced technology.

I don't think that's right. That would imply that it either goes to 0 with nearly 1 second left (it doesn't) or that it stays at 1 for two seconds (it doesn't).

When there's 1.0 seconds left and then the next is 0.9. Now imagine that clock doesn't show the .9. Should it be a shot-clock violation?

Maybe NFL game clocks are set-up where when they hit start it starts at 25.9, but my guess when they hit start, it's 25->24.9.
