Fairly or not (mostly fairly given the pathetic response) the federal government was always going to get the brunt of the blame when things start going bad. A competent administration would have asked for money to build out tests and whatnot sooner, amongst dozens of other things (including not disbanding the part of the NSC that was in place to deal with pandemic response).

Trump will try to blame China, the Democrats, Obama, he'll blame his own kids if he thought it would do any good but even the stupidest of Trump supporters aren't going to buy it when their parents and friends start dying.

I asked. She said just that cash is universally accepted. I'm not sure what that means either.

But if we're gonna be there in two weeks why not now? Felt like an idiot taking the kid to school this am. Everyone traveled everywhere for spring break. Can't figure out what I would do with cash either... But id better get the shovel and map.

Right, my oldest is on a damn field trip today. In lieu of strong central leadership, everyone will just wait until its already in circulation to respond.

I've bought some extra water and food (for me it's more about taking as few trips out as possible if it gets like Italy, not concern over not having good tap water available) but if it gets so bad that the banking system fails...

I went out and walked around South Lake Union during the lunch hour. Food Trucks that would normally have 20 - 30 people queued up were completely empty.

If you read the epidemiologist stuff (usually found on Twitter) we are about 9 days behind Italy on their arc. Or percentage of cases from where it started here compared to where Italy's started overlays pretty perfectly as the days pass - so the worry is that over the next nine days we will go from where we are now to what Italy is currently experiencing...

I really think we'll see slower spreading here because a) warming seasonal temps and 2) lower population density (yes, it will hit urban centers but overall we live further apart and have more isolated lives than Chinese & Italians).

We're all supposed to fly to Florida in 11 days to visit my mother-in-law. Her husband (my wife's dad) died a few months ago, so it's kinda important that we do it. The mother-in-law is on her own out there, a long way from any family.

We're thinking of driving it instead. Because it's "only" 2000 miles each way, and we have three drivers including my sixteen-year-old daughter.

At what point does that kind of drive become more dangerous than the coronavirus anyway?

Out of curiosity I looked at the details.

Italy is 116,000 sq miles and has 60 million people.

For comparison, New Mexico is 121,000 sq miles and has...2 million people. (Now, nearly half are in ABQ, but still. Imagine 18% of America lived just in New Mexico.)

So very dense, large cities need to worry more than "America," I think. Of course this doesn't diminish the threat, but I'm not going to panic over it.

Ha. Drive. I'm supposed to take my kids to visit my parents and aunt, all 70+, and will likely cancel just because I don't know that my conscience would be able to handle something happening.

Yeah, I think that's it. I don't know how afraid I am (yet) of actually catching the virus, but the "what ifs" are nagging me.

Could it be it spread more in Italy due to Italians hugging and kissing when they greet each other?

You've got a good lead on that first one. And, yes, I did see about that ban. Our event is smaller than that, so my question about it this morning was disregarded by my bosses.

Don't be offended that we're not hanging out this time (I probably won't have the time on this trip, anyway).

Gov. Inslee to restrict gatherings of more than 250 people, a move aimed at sports and concerts to be
In the most drastic move yet to try to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, Gov. Jay Inslee is expected Wednesday to restrict gatherings of more than 250 people in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties, a move aimed at sports, concerts and other cultural events.

The measure will be announced during a Seattle news conference, according to a source involved in conversations with the governor’s office but who has not been cleared to discuss the issue. The measure would not affect retail stores, according to the source.

The restriction applies to large public gatherings such as baseball games, concerts and cultural events, another source told the Times.

Arsenal vs. Manchester City postponed after players exposed to Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis
Arsenal's Premier League match against Manchester City on Wednesday has been postponed after a number of the squad made "close contact" with Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis two weeks ago.

Marinakis, who is also the owner of Championship side Nottingham Forest, announced on Instagram on Tuesday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus -- 13 days after being present at the Emirates as his side eliminated Arsenal from the Europa League.

Still feels like the calm before the storm, but the storm is coming. Or maybe a better analogy is how it seems that time slows down right before you get in an accident but in those split-seconds before the accident has happened where you know it’s going to happen seems like it can last forever.

Looking like the Pentagon is going to stop all movements of anyone who is either moving from one station to another or redeploying. Not exactly sure about deployments for people coming out, but we'll see.

People are here thinking they're going home soon. 🤣🤣🤣
