When they close us down, I don't know what will happen with tuition payments and employees getting paid -- after school workers aren't the type of people that can miss many pay checks.
I have to assume our daycare and in-school aftercare payments would continue as usual but also assume that a certain subset of parents, without any correlation to their ability to afford, will flip out about "paying for nothing".
The last part about which parents will flip out is very accurate. For most programs, a lot will depend on what the enrollment agreement says. We require 10 equal payments a full month ahead of service based on the school schedule, so if they attend full time, that's 180 days. If the school year is shortened because of the virus, we're not providing the 180 days or whatever fraction according to the enrollment agreement.

Sean Hannity truly, truly needs the shit beat out of him.

He's an insufferable prick and has been for years (when ya gonna waterboard yourself to prove it isn't torture, fucko?) but if he gets people killed, then that's it.

Well, my little town is in the news today. You heard about the Grand Princess cruise ship and its 21 passengers who've been diagnosed with corona virus?

Passengers from cruise ship with coronavirus-like symptoms relocating to San Carlos hotel
Passengers who disembarked the contaminated Grand Princess cruise ship and are showing coronavirus-like symptoms are being relocated to a hotel in San Carlos.

California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) said each person transferring to the hotel has been screened by medical professionals and they only have mild symptoms that do not require hospitalization.
These poor folks need to go somewhere, and compassion is needed. But, I also expect the local NIMBY crowd to be out.

If my math is correct, 4,600 worldwide deaths doesn't sound "that bad" but 15% of those were in the last 3 days (8th-10th).

Although I do have to say, no thanks to the gov't unless they're running behind the scenes doing the right thing, I'm shocked we've gotten as far as we have by this point. I never would have bet on the major music fests and NCAA tourney being cancelled for fans.

will probably go to costco and menards tomorrow to stock up on food -- not like we've built a stockpile here in 12 days -- and the hundreds of bucks I need in materials for my home improvement projects to keep me busy on the weekends and evenings. if I don't get sick I can be very productive!

Wife wants a ban on going to the grocery store now that we have a confirmed patient in town. Did the online warehouse order, and first delivery time is Sunday! Not sure what the delivery times were 3 weeks ago, but I wasn't expecting 4 days! Going to be a week out in a few days, I imagine. Fortunately, grocery stores seem well stocked other than zinc. Didn't look at toilet paper aisle, though, as we did our usual monthly BJs run last week.

More generally it’s people who know they almost assuredly won’t die and care less about others who could than they do about their investments.

Write up about the hospital where my GF works and is the epicenter of things here...

A ‘New Normal’ for Hospitals on the Front Lines Fighting Coronavirus
At 6:04 p.m. on Tuesday night, the staff at EvergreenHealth in Washington State got another warning: Two more patients with respiratory troubles were on their way to an emergency ward that had already been flooded with coronavirus patients.

Doctors, nurses, technicians and respiratory therapists rushed to get each other prepared, handing out blue gloves, tying on each other’s yellow gowns and helping fit white helmets inflated by clean air — the visors opaque from the repeated cleanings with bleach they had undergone over the past brutal week.

I’m not looking forward to the next two months. Even though I can do a large part of my job at home, I’m classified as an essential employee. Given that our hourly workforce will (rightly) be allowed to self quarantine when this hits the fan in about a week, I’ll have to be out on the floor making metal. Even if the company decides to idle production, we cant just immediately turn off the equipment in my AoR without potentially blowing it up. Meaning someone has to be there to monitor. We can idle, but it would take roughly a week to get the equipment in a safe state. That means I’ll be potentially stuck out at the plant for two weeks. And then it takes serious time to bring everything back online (another 3-4 days) on the back end. It will be very interesting to see how the company manages through. Worth noting they named a Covid-19 crisis task force early last week, and are providing daily communications which is nice. They’ve been escalating tactics every couple of days to try their best to protect the workforce while on site.

Aside from worrying about impact on me directly, y’all, this economic hit is going to be massive. Lots of manufacturing facilities in China shut down for WEEKS. Northern Italy is going to be the same.

So, my law partner with breast cancer ... she’s supposed to start chemo next week. That’ll make her extra susceptible to infection. She is connected to Rudy Gobert with three degrees of separation. So now it isn’t clear what she’s supposed to do.
