Had some a few weekends ago when I flew to ATL to see Archers of Loaf. It's not bad, and especially good when you mix flavors over ice.

Sounds like Sen Burr has some 'splainin to do...

Senator Dumped Up to $1.6 Million of Stock After Reassuring Public About Coronavirus Preparedness
Soon after he offered public assurances that the government was ready to battle the coronavirus, the powerful chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, sold off a significant percentage of his stocks, unloading between $582,029 and $1.56 million of his holdings on Feb. 13 in 29 separate transactions.

As the head of the intelligence committee, Burr, a North Carolina Republican, has access to the government’s most highly classified information about threats to America’s security. His committee was receiving daily coronavirus briefings around this time, according to a Reuters story.

A week after Burr’s sales, the stock market began a sharp decline and has lost about 30% since.

Purely a coincidence. I saw an article with a recording of Burr supposedly (I didn't have time to actually listen) telling donors a week ago how bad this pandemic was going to be, while still publicly calling it a hoax. Fucking scumbag, profiteering off a pandemic while publicly making statements that will lead people to ignore the calls to isolate and keep more people safe. I Hope he gets investigated, but of course nothing will happen to him. These POS are above the law, while a Dem would be shamed into stepping down.

I never thought about holding the beverage undertone apron (I'd probably be paranoid about hair sliding off it into the drink when I brought it out to take a sip).

And, based on the font used on the signs for the aisles, that picture is from a Safeway/Vons in California.

I can't find a clear answer on this, but at least for criminal exposure, one might have to be an "insider" with respect to the company whose stock is being traded, which would exclude Senators.

Also, the person must be in possession of material nonpublic information *about the company whose stock is traded*. Generally dumping stock because you have reason to believe the market is going to collapse might not count. Especially where there's been all kinds of public information since late January about how bad things could get here.

When Trump claims "no one saw a pandemic coming," we all love to jump in to say that yes, everyone knew it was coming. Well, if everyone knew it was coming, it's going to be hard to prove that these folks were trading on "inside information."

Don't get me wrong - it's appalling that these guys did that. Hell, it's appalling that members of congress are allowed to trade stocks period. These people should be run out of office on a rail, as well as featured in Democratic ads. But if there's no prosecution, we can't just assume it's because Barr is protecting them.

Edit: This article seems to suggest there needs to be a fiduciary duty to the company whose stock the insider traded.

Tucker Carlson Calls on Burr to Resign
“Maybe there is an honest explanation for what he did. If there is, he should share it with the rest of us immediately. Otherwise, he must resign from the Senate and face prosecution for insider trading.

“There is no greater moral crime than betraying your country in a time of crisis,” Carlson concluded. “And that appears to be what happened.”

One of my wife’s best friends works for a dentist group that hasn’t closed yet, as an in the room assistant. She told their HS friend group chat this evening that the docs got their hands on a motherlode of Chloroquine, and she’ll be taking a regimen for the next couple months and she has no reason to stop working or worry about the virus. My wife unloaded on her for various obvious reasons and now they aren’t talking

This is the only thing in your last two posts this thread your wife is wrong about.

Like, she should be examining her friendship and looking for warning signs as to why she should have ejected previously.

Are you guys or your wives on Next Door? I read it even though is pisses me off half the time. It's mainly a place for cranky old people to vent about stupid shit (of course, I have the Swamp for that).

I read this just now on Next Door, but I've read similar stupidity on Facebook, too. I just get tired of it.

To be fair to Feinstein, not all stock sales are the same. She's worth tens of millions of dollars and sold a biotech stock that was near it's lowest price. That's hardly the move of someone committing insider trading (the idea is to sell high, not low).

Wait a minute. Why can't we attack Feinstein? Newsom would just appoint a younger Democratic woman for Feinstein's seat anyway. If Democratic leadership condemns all four of the grifters, maybe it could push GOP leadership to do the same. It wouldn't even be a net loss. Worst thing happens, Weinstein gets replaced, and the Democrats can hammer the GOP in the media for being obvious crooks for not doing the same for Burr, Inhofe, and Loeffler.

Forcing a senator to retire for selling a stock near its lowest price seems like 100 times worst than the Al Franken thing. I'm not a Feinstein fan, in fact she mostly sucks, but she probably isn't running again anyway. She's 86 now and will be 90 when her seat comes up again.
