That official memorandum was 100% leaked to the media. I deal with official guidance like that on the daily and I have to send things up the chain as necessary. We have our own everything inherent to communication. This was intended to get out.

Which leads me to the fact that the Captain (Colonel being the equivalent rank in other branches) is most definitely going to be force retired for it. He's doing the right thing overall, but he won't become an Admiral if he ever had aspirations. Though to him, in this moment, an entire warship full of sailors take precedence because that's what you're taught as a military leader: take care of your people. I look forward to a future Op Ed from this guy in retirement.

The Navy was a waaaaayyyyy distant 2nd on military services I wanted to join. Things like "living in close quarters in a ship at sea for months at a time" is why. I wonder if this will hurt recruitment any for the Navy. Probably not because our paychecks and employment are nearly depression-proof, but it might change your mind on joining that particular branch.
To effectively fight this, you need politicians who put aside all concerns about re-election. The US does not have that in large supply, particularly in the White House. It's a hard action to take.

Especially when you take into account a family is typically not in the house for 10-12 hours a day.
That made sense for a little while, but who the hell is still buying all the TP at this point?
All the people who haven't been able to find it for the past 4 weeks? I got lucky, we made a run to BJs (have at it, MisterD) a week or two before the panic buying. My wife wanted to keep a bulk case of TP in the basement for the lower floor bathrooms, and a second case upstairs in the laundry room for the upstairs bathrooms. Glad I didn't argue that one. Did the same with paper towels and clorox wipes, which my wife has been hoarding for a decade. My MiL puts hand satirizer in all of our stockings every Christmas, so we had a bunch of that on hand. If anyone needs a travel toothbrush, we all get one of those every year, two. Probably have at least 16 in the house.
Goddamn, how many bathrooms can you possibly have, Jeff Bezos?

She was so sweet about it, and it was heart warming that my friends wanted to do something.

I'm an absolute zilch in terms of notoriety, but it would be a fireable offense to be somehow caught hanging out at a party as the spokesperson for a govt entity. Not to mention, you know, as a functioning member of society right now.

Also, I like my friends, but... C'mon guys. Think it through a little.
My wife turns 50 Friday. (We share a bday but mine isn’t a milestone -41, I married a cougar) I canceled the party I’d planned. Her sis and husband live across the street, so they will come over and we will play Cornhole and croquet in the yard. Our friends will now execute a drive by parade in the evening while we are in the yard which will be funny.

Since the President never attended the hearings and wasn't even deposed, and he repeated countless times he wasn't even paying attention to it, and no members of the Admin attended, why couldn't he act? Is he that weak and incompetent that a silly Democrat hoax paralyzed his entire Admin? Eh, why am I injecting logic or reason? Fuck, I hate everything.

...DeSantis would allow people to attend religious services, a carve out that will be closely watched in Hillsborough County, where Tampa megachurch pastor Rodney Howard-Browne was arrested for holding two large Sunday services in defiance of a local emergency order. I have a situation, too. Just found out today that my 80 year-old mother is having major surgery on April 13. I said to her, "maybe I should come out." She responded, "I wish you would. I'm kind of worried." So, you know damned well I will be there for her.

The only question is whether I drive 1,100 miles by myself to New Mexico, or roll the dice and take a flight. Leaning toward the latter.
Not to pry about the type of surgery she's having, but by April 13th she may not be having surgery. Most hospitals around here (starting with the one my GF works at) are delaying all 'elective' surgeries. If its not life-or-death, they made not be doing the procedure.
Her surgery was supposed to be in June, but her cardiologist told her that the calendar spot in April opened up and he thought it important to do the surgery sooner rather than later. So, I’d be surprised if it gets put off. At least as of now, New Mexico isn’t as much a virus hot spot as Washington.
Well, it took awhile for them to make the decision, but just today, my mother's cardiologist phoned her and told her they were postponing her surgery for an (undefined) "couple months". At this point, who knows when it will actually occur, but the immediate upshot is that I don't have to go to New Mexico next week.

I would say you reap what you sow at this point. If those fucking morons want to spread the virus around with their fellow fucking morons, have at it.

Now that there's a stay at home order, it's going to be pretty localized within their fucking moron community.

Yeah, but they will all go to the grocery store and pass it on to everyone else. I say if they go to Megachurch, they can't leave for 2 months. And since the megachurches make millions of dollars in profit tax free, no support from the government when they all get sick. Joe Rogan said it'd be great if a virus came around that just killed dumbasses. This is the way we could make it happen!

My wife is calling positive cases in the city where she works to get information on their condition, to trace how they might have been exposed and who else might have been exposed to them. The woman she just spoke to hasn’t heard back from her doctor yet, so my wife ended up being the one to tell her she was positive. The woman is a single mother with an underlying health condition who lives with her 3 year old daughter. She has no one available to help her care for the child.

I understand wlu's view here. We all know they waited, but emphasizing "LAST YEAR" when it was the literal last day of that year is a bit grandiose. No need to exaggerate, we know it's bad.
