Point of clarification - after internal discussions the local health dept my wife works for has decided not to tell people this until they get it in writing from the state. One of the epidemiologists just nonchalantly dropped it on the conference call and blew everyone’s minds.tennbengal wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 12:00 pmSo the antibody testing is bullshit? That last part is new and seems to indicate doubt in post-recovery immunity.

My sister works for a company that has been going into dorm rooms and sorority houses and packing up personal items and either shipping them back or storing them offsite for parents/students to come and get on their own time. IU is also offering time slots for others to come get their items. She says that campus is just a ghost town.A_B wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 8:09 amAre they offering an option to have it packed/stored? Unless it's kilos of coke or heroin, I don't think she's getting in trouble. They might enjoy it for themselves, but I don't think a college wants to make a hassle over weed and booze when they're probably scared to death over dropping enrollment.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 8:18 am It's slightly complicated in that she has a lot of hooch and she's worried about getting busted for that.

I'm just kidding. She's got the normal amount of booze, probably a pen of some sort. No big deal.
And, GK, thanks very much for your offer. She's in a sorority house that's pretty locked down, so I don't think it's an option.

That really sounds like the elevator pitch for a great teen comedy.
"During a quarantine, a girl has to get back to her sorority house to smuggle out a massive supply of booze before Dean Wormer and his minions find out."

Why couldn't a bar be open? Say you have a 20 foot bar with three stools. Then 5 tables for two spaced apart. One masked bartender, one masked waitress. One cook in the back. Reservations only, max one hour. Yes, you have to reserve the stool. Run it like a doctors office. Open from noon to 10pm, gets 100 people in the door.

The most likely scenario for a watering hole is to have a patio where people can spread out and be outside. I'm just going inside a restaurant or bar for many many months. Totally not worth it.
Been said a lot on this thread, but the guidance really points to ppl having a much higher chance of getting inside (closed quarters, combined with lots of surface, combined with whatever is going on with their HVAC system and airflows.)

Better than nothing for employees who depend on tips? With places opening with restrictions, how are workers who depend on getting as many customer as possible going to make enough money? For a small business, they're probably better off focusing on takeout until they are allowed to be at least at half capacity, and the pay structure should probably change so the wait staff aren't so dependent on tips.degenerasian wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 1:32 pm Why couldn't a bar be open? Best thing I've seen from a bar is a place here (Stirling Hotel) selling kits to make fancy mixed drinks, and selling crowlers of local brews to go. They have a full restaurant and are doing to-go options, but I love the idea of approx $40 for a liter of vodka with a quart of mix and lime slices or whatever.A_B wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 1:38 pmI think most people would just choose drinking alone in that instance. Liquor stores and breweries jumped on the contactless to-go system immediately. Breweries had online orders, and you'd pick up on the loading dock, then they changed the law so breweries could make home deliveries. It sounds like most sell out almost immediately on the deliveries, and still offer pickup at the breweries. The liquor store in town delivers and also does online pickups. I haven't been, but their website says they are allowing 5 customers in the store at a time. It's a fairly large, open store, too, so I'm sure it's a comfortable shopping experience.
As for the grocery deliveries, I've felt no guilt. It's loaded at a warehouse, so it's not like I'm paying someone to go to the store for me. I think it's infinitely more safe to have a few people in a warehouse loading a truck rather than everyone going into stores and endangering each other and the employees. The delivery driver drops the bags at my door and rings the bell when he is done. I don't feel guilt, as it's providing work opportunities for people who don't necessarily have skills to do other essential work. I mean, maybe the particular guy does, but in general. It's a pain in the ass, as you have to order 2 weeks out. Time slots open at 1:00 am two weeks out, and they are booked in minutes. At least you can continually change your order up until 3:00pm the day before it arrives. I have 2 accounts, so one order a week. I haven't been to a store since February, but my wife has stopped in a couple of times to fill the gaps. The website has a much more limited selection than the store, and half the items are listed as sold out. Up until 2 weeks ago, half the in-stock items I'd order would arrive. I'd order several brands of the same item hoping one would arrive. Sometimes you'd get none, sometimes you get 8 packages of varying sizes and brands of toilet paper. It's a crap shoot. I was ordering $700 worth of groceries and getting $300 for a couple weeks. I hate not selecting produce, and it makes meal planning impossible. Haven't done much full meal cooking, but relying on frozen and prepared foods more than I'd like. I really miss going to the store and planning a recipe based on what looks good. The worst is bananas. Last week I got 10 tiny green bananas that weren't edible for 4 days, this week I got 5 giant bananas that will be overripe in 2 days. Coffee beans have been available once. Thankfully my favorite local roaster is mailing beans if you order 3 pounds.
