This might be a big diff in approach then; at Whole Foods the delivery people are shopping right along side everyone else.
This is how Kroger does it, as well.
And Publix, Shipt, Instacart, etc. down here.

I will say that on my trip to Whole Foods this weekend, I was impressed with their set up. They're the only place I've seen that had a station set up to check employee's temperatures. They politely required masks inside, and had them for you if you didn't have one. We ordered through Amazon Prime, and I wouldn't have had to enter the store at all except people were already in the two spots designated for bringing your groceries out to you.

I haven't been impressed with Publix. They made aisles one way, added sneeze guard plexiglass at checkout, and appear to be disinfecting carts, but that is it for safety precautions.

I've been using Peapod and trying for 7 weeks to get a delivery from FreshDirect. They add delivery slots a week out, and it loads at midnight. Both their website and app crash until 12:05, at which time all slots are sold out. I would feel weird with the Whole Food approach, or that service where you pay people to shop for you. I can't think of the name, but I've seen several people post of FB that the people bought groceries with their credit card and disappeared.

1. I thought crowler was a typo until I googled it... Huh. I've only heard of growlers.

2. The Total Wine experience is an open store, but also curbside pickup, which I might never go back to going in the store*. You order online and then it's ready the next day, but you come when you want. You park in a slot, text a number with your last name and less than 5 mins your order is being loaded into the back.

(I'm tipping these guys $20, btw.)

3. Same thing for curbside at Giant. Super easy.

I have ZERO problem going this route. For one thing, at least around here (MD) this was already a service at most stores. The fact that more added it to their array the last month... Cool. Also, by me not going in the store, I'm keeping things less crowded in there. Win win.

When my wife went into the dispensary, they gave us a time (well, she picked a window). They came out and checked her ID and then she was ushered into the store, where there were only 2 other customers (3 total). Smooth.

4. My wife is also doing the thing Syb is: Booking deliveries 2 weeks in advance. She adds/subtracts up until the order is filled. We're almost at the point where we are canceling a delivery, because the fridge is pretty full and fucking HATE throwing out food.

* The problem with online ordering at TW is the beer selection is somewhat limited.

At Shaw's, they give a Mexican kid with asthma a helmet with an iPad strapped to it, and you yell at them on Facetime to grab something you want when they look at it.

Bring back Purity Supreme. All in all, Hannaford was the best grocer I ever frequented but that was before the subscription clubs. And yeah, Shaw's not the top option. At least it's a major chain. Theres a couple here that seem to focus on food desert type areas. Wayfield Foods is right next to the office so I frequent and it's pretty dismal but in an acceptable in a developing nation kind of way. Buy Low needs to be investigated by USDA.

So at the Basket, a siren goes off when an online order is placed. It’s then a race to see which retired steamroller operator sitting at the little pretend cafe area near the pizza bar gets to claim that order and deliver it himself 12 days later. It’s 80 bags of groceries for $64.97 and he creepily gives the tip to his favorite checkout girl who is also the National Honor Society treasurer.

The Shaw's in my vicinity have been better overall than Hannaford/Market Basket. But maybe that's just my experience.

And thanks to HaulCitgo for introducing me to the term "food desert." I remember in the western states it seemed every supermarket in an area just barely big enough to support one was a Safeway.

The best place to food shop in Reveahhhh was Johnnie's Foodmastah, kid. TRIPLE COUPONS.

We never called it Market Basket growing up. It was always DeMoulas. Big deal when Arthur T. got fired as CEO in 2014

(I think it's closed now though.)

The range of victims in this thread from "no symptoms, didn't feel anything" to "fever, chest, and severe fatigue then got better then took a dive and died, but was healthy with no underlying issues" is just harrowing.

There's never been a successful vaccine for a coronavirus. I'd love to think someone came up with one after five months, but I don't think it's going to happen that quickly. Hope I'm wrong.

I think the problem IS the biology though. Coronaviruses are notorious for quickly mutating. That's what has made an HIV vaccine impossible all these years (though it can now be mostly treated with the drug "cocktails").

We're doomed.

I ran to Lowe's today. Middle of the day on a weekday, when it rained 2 inches night before and this morning. I needed a shovel, a dryer plug, and a bottle of wood glue.

The complete lack of anything remotely touching guidance of any kind is null and void. Hundreds of people. Vendors restocking, employees, and customers. I had a mask on (I wear mine whenever I'm in a high density area outside or anytime I'm inside anywhere other than my house). I'd say maybe 40% of anyone not employed by Lowe's had one on. Vendors did not. Patrons mostly did not, and half the ones I saw had a sling around their mouth with their nose exposed. That I can't figure out for the life of me.

We're fucking doomed.

While the governor (MD) lowered the state's stance to Safer at Home, MoCo is still at a Stay at Home and will remain so until at least early June. I'm on emergency management calls and while the growth of new cases is down to 3-5 percent, the county won't open up until it's 14 days in a row of flat or decreasing cases.

Went to Target to pick up an online Bday gift for The Girl yesterday... Place was fucking PACKED. This Target has a grocery store, so it never closed, but I think ppl are just sick of being stuck at home. I was glad I just had to pop in and pick up the order... That joint was not a good place to be.

Important nugget from this article is that a lot of vaccines look good in preliminary testing, but don't pan out in the wash.

Yeah, it's great news but I think the optimism needs to be tempered quite a bit and definitely isn't worth a freaking 1,000 point bump in the Dow.

And even if this is THE vaccine, it's still not going to be able to available until around the end of the year at the best even with fast-tracking from the FDA, etc. That also assumes they can produce it in enough quantities for it to be useful and is made available for free to all Americans.

Sounds unlikely to be a single vaccine especially on a global basis. Talk about not knowing. I'm not anti vaccine but just has to be plenty of open issues when they get ready to stick it in your arm.
