If you're looking at the OF from home plate and put them in a 3 x 3 box, with 5 being the starting point, the movement is 1-3 or 7-9, not 4-6 (and usually not 8). Anything neutral is how you get smoked atleast once per year in coed softball and it'll probably stick in your head I would suspect but I can't confirm wink wink.HaulCitgo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 3:15 pm Whoa, whoa. Do you guys really take steps backward before you see where its going? You drop left one half step if its hit on that side and drop right a half step if its on that side but no active steps back until you know its over your head. I do kinda agree with the shallow positioning part but even then you have to see it its over your head first.

Yeah but it takes a half-second to tell it's over your head, and once you know it's really deep you run back. You don't wait to find out exactly how deep.HaulCitgo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 3:15 pm Whoa, whoa. Do you guys really take steps backward before you see where its going? And I say an early break is a really good way to create doubles and triples out of singles. Not sure thats limiting damage.

Hear yall. But I say its 1-3 half step (more like a pivot) and rarely 7-9 unless youre really good. You dont even mention 2 so ill take that as a win. And ive been frozen for what feels like forever trying to judge balls hit right at me.
Re: Not so funny real life Capt Trips thread
Its the balls that end up in 8 that kill me. Even though I know the whole "if your chin goes up, you go back" rule, I still stand like a dick.

I sailed for a couple of years on a boat owned by a retired Rear Admiral ( Here's his bio). I wonder what he would think about all this. I'm guessing he would be fully supportive of what the guy did.

If he ever was the commander of a boat (and I'd be shocked if he wasn't on at least a few occasions, I would literally guarantee you he would support it.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 4:32 pmI sailed for a couple of years on a boat owned by a retired Rear Admiral ( Here's his bio). Having a hard time pulling the Darwin card on these types of stories. Just feels shitty. Like I know millions of people like that led us here, but that one individual woman was just one person who yeah put her self interests before those of a bunch of people she doesn’t know, and trusted conmen of the highest level, and then died, in part it seems, because of that. That’s horrible though. Just because you cling to the wrong thing in a shitty world that’s out to get you one way or another doesn’t mean you deserve to die.

Is it weird to anyone else that two of the big messages from these first few weeks have been 1) there’s a shortage of tests and 2) if your symptoms are manageable just stay home...but there have still been tons of negative tests?
In MA, almost 70,000 tests and 11,000 cases. In NH, 7500 tests and 540 cases. The source doesn’t explicitly say that some are still pending but even if you assume so, that’s a huge chunk of people who are cleared.
I can’t figure out if this is hopeful news that they’re able to test lots of people or bad news that they’re “wasting” them on that many negatives. I wonder how many are part of groups of known contacts vs. randoms walking into an ER or going through primary care with a 100.5 temp.

I don’t know. From hearsay it seems like NJ is leaning hard on the you don’t get tested unless you’re sick or you have first hand interaction with someone who is (or you have an in who can get you an rx). I haven’t actually looked at tested vs positive here.

Yeah. Best I could just google was about 5500 test a day this past week.
Death rate seems high this past week, too.
Earlier in the week the main county testing site where my wife’s city is located was worried that they were going to be short on tests yesterday. That didn’t end up happening, but it wasn’t a sure thing until Thursday.

I don’t know if it’s changed, but NJ doctors were instructed not to prescribe tests for mildly symptomatic patients they expected were positive. Test for flu, strep whatever else, if those negative, tell the patient they should assume positive for COVID without a test. That could explain higher death rate, as milder symptom positives aren’t being tested.

Re: Not so funny real life Capt Trips thread
I’ve been wondering about this for a while. In Utah, 95% of tests have been negative. I feel like that fact should be significant, but I can’t quite reason out how.Ryan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 04, 2020 10:10 pm Is it weird to anyone else that two of the big messages from these first few weeks have been 1) there’s a shortage of tests and 2) if your symptoms are manageable just stay home...but there have still been tons of negative tests?

Does that mean the doctors are being really wasteful with the tests? Does that mean we can rule out there being huge numbers of undiscovered positives?
If we do have “enough tests” in Utah, I’d love to get everyone in my firm and their families tested.

Ship would be an interesting test case. I assume one of the reasons the sailors arent concerned is cause they're fucked anyway. Not a submarine but can't be tons of space between those guys. You figure the entire boat is infected within a couple weeks right? Just saying you could find out a lot of data about case outcomes in a group where you can pretty much guarantee 100% exposure.

Boris Johnson admitted to the hospital. He's had the virus for 10 days and this is about the point for some people where it gets bad.
