Amazing that TMZ is the most reliable source. ABC is all over the place spreading rumors.

I'm watching the Raptors-Spurs pregame and nobody wants to play. NBA thinking about calling off all games today

I’m watching Rockets and while it started off with a lot of disinterest, it’s more normal now. Tyson Chandler has gone from openly weeping on the bench to becoming a cheerleader.

So the game started. Spurs and Raptors both let the 24 second shot clock expire on the first two possessions of the game to honour Kobe.

I suppose since everyone was in the arena is why that one went off. Have to think they will cancel the rest.

It’s hard to overstate how beloved Kobe is among current NBA players. Most of them are too young to have seen much of Jordan but they all grew up watching Kobe play.

He was a partner with a buddy of mine for this training facility in LA. There were all kinds of pictures of him with some lacrosse kids training yesterday at the facility.

Maybe too soon, but the Kobe thing always brings me back to Tosh's take on Kobe fandom

Does no one want to mention there’s at least a somewhat decent chance he’s a rapist who got away with it for all these years?

This rush to rehabilitate Kobe just because he had the sense to not rape anyone again is really puzzling.

I was not a Kobe fan, at all. But to address Brian’s point, I don’t think the reaction he’s getting is unique. If Ben Roethlisberger or Bill Clinton or [insert famous rockstar here] died unexpectedly tomorrow I think you’d see a similar outpouring of admiration and grief. That doesn’t mean that celebrities’ transgressions should be ignored — just that the public reaction here is not surprising.

I also tend to believe in second chances and don’t think Kobe was ever accused of anything other than being a difficult teammate post-2003.

I could be very wrong and I’m willing to be, but I thought Kobe’s had a lot of gray area.

Plenty of women have been praising and mourning Kobe today do you can’t just attribute the reaction to gender biases. Just a few examples:

They (mostly) all do. Either you believe women or you don’t. I’m not saying he should have been lynched but everyone was REALLY relieved when he was acquitted or else they might have had to confront the reality that nice dudes rape women too.

But you guys go on with the hero worship. Keep dogging on the Lions/Patricia while you do. I think I’ve been consistent and I can live with that.

That’s not what I meant either. I meant there’s a version where a non-agreed upon act happened during a consensual event, which I don’t think is the same as forcing the event.

So fifteen years from now if your daughter agrees to consensual sex and some dude decides to flip her around and fuck her in the ass without her consent that’s OK?

(And if your response is “does that mean starting condones anything” or course not and not stopping clearly crosses the consent line.)

I’m not saying he’s some kind of serial rapist like the Golden State Killer here or anything but it’s been a weird path to rehabilitation where everyone is all upset that a dude who at the very fucking best likely crossed some serious lines puzzles me. Good thing for him he was good with the media and great at basketball.

I don’t think he was good with the media at all. He was Jeter-ish where it always bordered on condescension.
