Thought I'd make a combined thread just for all sports instead of the separate ones that we have.

Sounds like the NHL is done as well.

Pretty sure no sport wants to be the jerk at this point and keeps playing.

In addition to Rudy Gobert, also Donovan Mitchell. Both All-Stars, though I guess the All-Star Game was long enough ago that it’s probably a coincidence.

I don't know. When did the outbreak in China start? The All-Star game brings in all kinds of foreign press. Add Kobe's death and all the things the NBA did to honor him and his daughter, I would say more press were there. Plus he grew up in Italy. No idea when Italy started having signs of the virus. I would say there was a good chance they were in contact with someone there.

So, at least I'm not as stressed out about all the stuff I have to get done before taking my annual March Madness PTO.

I started the other thread on January 22. So just before then.

ACC basketball just canceled (after they said they were going to keep playing games in "empty" arenas - each team was allowed 150 people in the arena).

Only Big East still going.

I was in Chicago during All-Star weekend so I hope it’s a coincidence!

I don't think the issue is when the virus started, but rather whether an exposure during the All-Star Game would have revealed itself before now. But I have no idea. Also, Rudy has apparently been sick for a few days.

My son just landed a great job. He gets to go to local MLS and lower-level soccer games and give live reports to some gambling/stats site. But ...

They're not gonna have a choice by then. Not trying to be a bummer, but that's right around when the shit will truly be hitting the fan.

It also happens to be my 50th birthday week, and any plans I had around that are being canceled. My wife is a May baby, so we're hoping we can travel by then.

The PGA Tour can't make the call for The Masters.

It's 75% of their total yearly revenue.

And if CBS/Turner are willing to pay that, how much do they have to be making in turn to make a profit?

Yeah, Duke's already pulled out. It's just a matter of time. I'm sure they're trying to figure out if there's a way to postpone, but presumably they'll quickly come to the conclusion that between arena availability and academic concerns there's no way they'll be able to.

ESPN, ESPN2, CBS Sports, Fox Sports Network, BEin, BTN, ESPN Network, NBC Sports, Comcast SportsNetwork, etc. etc.

Think about the number or programming hours that need to get filled. What the hell are they going to talk about on sports center.

I see lots of taped Poker, 30 for 30, car shows, and classic events.

Wonder if infomercial rates are going up or down?

Also those mid/low tier sports could go under because of this. Indoor Lacrosse suspends league and that league does not have a big buffer.

I think there needs to be a nationwide "automatic stay" on all recurring payment obligations, including payment on debt incurred before the past couple of weeks. No rent, no mortgage, no car loan payments, no business or commercial or construction loan payments. Interest gets suspended, collection efforts are stayed, no consequence for nonpayment. Salaried employees who aren't working don't need to be paid above a certain level (which will be okay since they won't have mortgages or whatever to pay either).

Then a low tier league wouldn't go under because they wouldn't have any ongoing payment obligations. They could just pick it up again when the crisis eases.
