Sportacrat fight....Parkour says don't include us in the Olympics because the FIG is trying to steal the sport.
https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/i ... heir-sport

Actually this is really no different than when the international volleyball group took over beach volleyball from the AVP/Protour. Basically forced competitors into their events to make the Olympics.

Probably a similar fight when snowboarding/freestyle stuff was taken over by the Ski organizations.

In all seriousness, France has a lot of territory that has the same political status as The Hexagon. Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana in South America, and the Indian Ocean islands of Mayotte and Reunion are as much a part of France as Alaska and Hawaii are a part of the US. They also have a bunch of territories that have similar status that Puerto Rico has to the US, and Tahiti is one of them.

Coworker's son (UVA Grad) is racing in the marathon trial on Sunday in Orlando. He qualified for the trials 4 years ago too while running his first 1/2 marathon ever. Top 3 go to Paris but there are like 220+ qualifiers and he qualified with a solid middle performance (best qualifier was 2:07:47 in Chicago, he ran a 2:15:48 in MN).

Strongly considering going over there on Saturday morning. A woman in my running crew placed second at the Philly marathon and there's a big group going to cheer her on.

Anybody else have tickets for these games next summer? We got tickets for soccer (in Nice), basketball, and track. Still need to make our travel plans though. It's been hard, because we don't know what our sons will be doing next summer and if they'll come or not.

It was a really cool experience watching it in person. The girl in my run crew ran a 2:39:44. That's averaging a 6:06 for 26.2. Insane.

One of the qualifiers was talking to the front desk lady as I waited to check into my hotel. She was gushing over him as she watched on tv.

I swear I'm not playing Mad Libs but I think I just read that the hosts for the Opening Ceremonies on NBC are Mike Tirico, Peyton Manning, and Kelly Clarkson

The Olympic coverage has been on a downward slide for decades, in terms of the "mothership." There were a few cycles where it REALLY sucked because they hadn't utilized the rest of their properties (and possibly before some of the consolidation that has taken place) to show the actual competition. You were pretty much limited to packaged, recorded stuff.

These day, they can have Kelly Clarkson (who I find adorable and imminently talented) do whatever schtick they want to do and Peyton can be charming Peyton on the mothership, but I'm sure Peacock and USA and whatever other NBC universe will show more hours of stuff than any of us could hope to watch.

Paris is at most 9 hours ahead of anywhere in the Lower 48, so that should mean a lot of marquee events will be done in prime time there, and afternoon for here. This and EPL is the only benefit of having Xfinity as Peacock is free.

One of the advantages of living in Canada is that we can avoid the American coverage.

Canada's coverage on the "mothership" has gotten worse too. It used to be more fair but now there's a lot of cheer leading. Scott Russell's fawning over every 16th place Canadian finish is insufferable.

Didn’t it used to be Matt Lauer and Katie Couric or thereabouts? I don’t think NBC has ever treated the opening ceremony as a hard news event. Also, I don’t expect this to be like China or Russia—Paris is likely to offer standard Eurotainment, a very low-calorie affair.

Nothing will top when some country that had sent delegates but no athletes came in and Costas said something like “apparently looking to medal in buffet events”
