Kentucky offered some guidance earlier this week. I just don't see how it's going to be possible. Three of the five largest high schools in the state are in Lexington and there's just going to be basically no way to distance at those places (my youngest is not at one of them but still has over 1,800 students. Niece and nephew will be at the largest). They are to require masks and temperature checks, but it just seems like it will be too dificult.

I think they'd need to do like FEMA does and bring in a shitload of trailers so everyone can take up the room needed for social distancing.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Gwinnett is the biggest and generally considered the best run school system around here. Going to give parents a choice. Brilliant actually. Sans mask.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsbtv. ... utType=amp

Parents will receive an email on June 29 allowing them to make the selection for their child. Every parent must make a decision by July 10 or their student will automatically be assigned in-person instruction.

The district said students will attend school based on the option chosen through December and then they will reevaluate. They also said a change may be made in the first nine weeks of school “if it is needed to better serve the student.”

What if someone opts for in-person and changes their mind later? Are you going to not teach a kid or punish a parent for making a health decision in a possibly very different environment 6 weeks ago?

Even thinking hypothetically about that gives me anxiety.

What if parents don't have email, have the wrong email (bouncebacks), don't read their email or email goes to spam? I hope the school tracks 'opened emails'.

Our son's kindergarten teacher is great...

There were parents concerned about not getting report cards about how their kids are doing...

THEY'RE FUCKING KINDERGARTENERS WHO ARE SPENDING ABOUT TEN WEEKS LEARNING AT HOME. ANY FUCKING SHORTCOMING THEY HAVE WILL PROBABLY BE WIPED OUT IN THE FIRST SIX WEEKS WHEN THEY RETURN TO SCHOOL. THIS WILL NOT AFFECT THEIR CHANCES OF GETTING INTO A GOOD COLLEGE IN A DOZEN GODDAMN YEARS.

But, fuck off to all of them and let her teach. She's gotta deal with all the changes of this pandemic, handling her job in an almost entirely different way, and now all of you assholes. Fuck off, you self-important assholes and treat her with some sympathy, not as your fucking servant.
Report cards landed today. For both the third and fourth grading periods, due to distance learning, every single evaluation on both report cards was "NA" for "not assessed". Probably a whole lot of anxious parents in our little asshole suburb tonight. Ah, who am I kidding, they've probably been freaked out since Wednesday, when they became available online.

Children have been dropped off at camp. It was a little messy due to how practicality messes with plans when they get tried out for real.

While I wanted to help, it was different to have some "regular life" anxiety watching our son have to deal with not knowing what to do (they were trying to adjust on the fly to get kids in and get settled, but the cluster of staff at the entrance was making things a little confusing).

Spent the weekend in downtown Las Vegas and I can tell you that there's no way this country isn't fucked 10 ways from Sunday. Mask usage required but I must have seen like at least 100 people (and I'm not exaggerating at all) just wearing them on their mouth (not nose) or even just around their chin for some damn reason.

I hope you all are in good health. Based on my current symptoms, I recently was tested for COVID-19. My results have not come back yet but two people I've been in direct contact with have tested positive. I just want to make you all aware of this as I was in the office last Wednesday. I was in all rooms only used the printer during my time there.

Please everyone take percussion and stay healthy!

On mask usage...a quick question - since viral load during the time when you are most contagious is the issue - I get that wearing a mask over your mouth but not your nose is not ideal, but that's still better than nothing, right? Unless some mofo sneezes in my direction with their nose uncovered, how fucking hard do they have to be breathing through their nose to send enough particles six feet in enough of a load to transmit? I mean, sure, I wish both were covered but I will take mouth being covered over neither...

My guess is that it’s more of a difference to the spreadee rather than the spreader. Also, there’s millions of people not able to or not caring to follow the 6-foot thing so breathing out your nose as someone walks by you in Target is not ideal. Also also,
What may have finally convinced the CDC to change its guidance in favor of masks were rising disease prevalence and a clearer understanding that both pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic transmission are possible – even common. Studies have found that viral load peaks in the days before symptoms begin and that speaking is enough to expel virus-carrying droplets

It appears everyone in my wife's family is a fucking moron.

Her sister was at their horse farm in Florida and took her daughter to their friends' place in Miami ("we're only going to their place, it's fine"). Her mom, who also lives in Florida, went to visit her sister and niece.
So, the bulk of her mom's side of the family lives in Connecticut and New York, but they're trying to put together their annual family camping gathering for late August (her sister, her mom, and her aunt and uncle's family, which includes four cousins, two of whom have families). CT, NJ, and NY have put together the "two weeks quarantine if you are coming from one of the states with a high rate of COVID" list and, naturally, Florida is on it.

There is a text thread going on for the planning of the trip and her mom in unsure as to whether or not she is coming up. The info the sister sent out about the campground essentially put the kibosh on the mom because the campground won't allow guests and mom was planning on staying at a hotel (the aunt weighed in with a "have fun, we're not coming" message). Sister also mentioned they have a trip to Florida planned for the week prior to the camping trip, "so we'll still have a week of quarantine, but, you know..."

I think my offer of "make me the bad guy" was the final motivation my wife needed to send "if you go to Florida, we're out". I also told her that if this continued, we would have a discussion about whether we would see anyone she's related to ever again.

This is more rant than anxiety because I'm just tired of the stupid, needless risking of health to see people in three dimensions, but the ability to quote seemed to make this thread its proper home.

It's not the same because family is more important, but my wife is going through this with her friends right now. They're all getting together at each other's places all the time without wearing masks and then are asking why she won't join them.

Fast forward to yesterday when we find out one of them caught COVID (and had been working in the same spa where Tanya works though she's (Tanya) not back from her surgery just yet) for at least a couple of days before testing positive. I guess the husband of one of her friends is a firefighter and wasn't feeling that well but went to the party anyway because it was his day off and he didn't want to stay home.

I mean, how the fuck can you even when this is the world we're living in right now? How did we ever expect to contain it? She's just so pissed off and over it (as am I, though for different reasons) and ready to move and have it be just the two of us, which is basically how we've been living for the last four months anyway.

The majority of my wife's family are right-wingers who live in Missouri. They've been planning a big family reunion for August. My wife (and her sister who lives in San Francisco) have no plans to join them, but have been holding off telling that to their relatives, hoping that it just gets cancelled. The plan worked, as the hardliners finally gave in and postponed/cancelled it today, and my wife didn't have to play bad cop.

If you had told me before this all started that my wife and were going to be getting along this well after basically 3 1/2 months in the same house with minimal breaks, I would have laughed in your face.

I'm convinced there's only two kinds of successful couples.

The ones that just agree on everything and are more or less exactly alike in almost every single way and finish each other's sentences. Those couples are usually annoying as shit, but fortunately they're also rare.

The much larger group are the ones who don't agree on much really except on the most important things like who to hate and how to live.

Our biggest "struggle" is that we are pretty content to just hang out with each other and shut everything/one else out. But we have been better the last few years of getting our own space when necessary. We'll start to bicker about bullshit and we pull up and agree to go off and read or watch our own show or whatever. Especially with COVID and both working from home... Gotta take a temp. check fairly regularly.

Wife asking reasonable questions about the fall. I'll admit that there is little more intimate than a bunch of kids in a cabin but school is about a 6.5/10 if camp is a 10.

“June 18th, every staff member (no matter which week they would be working) for the upcoming season of YMCA Camp High Harbour - Lake Burton had reported for mandatory staff training to be held prior to the first campers arriving on Sunday, June 21st. Every staff member was required to test negative for COVID within 7 days of arriving at camp and their temperature was taken upon arrival. Through Saturday, June 20th, that group of people went through training. On Saturday afternoon, any staff member who would not be working the following week, went home. On Sunday June 21st campers arrived. Every camper was required to test negative for COVID within 7 days of arrival and their temperature was taken when they got there. By Tuesday, June 23rd, a staff member developed symptoms and immediately left camp, was tested for COVID and went home. The following day the results came back positive and he let the camp know. Meanwhile, other people at camp were also developing symptoms and being sent home. YMCA decided to shut down the camp for the season, but gave parents until Saturday to come pick up their kids. Some parents came right away, others not until the last minute. One of the nurses at camp says there were over 500 people at camp that week and that she sent home at least 60 people before Saturday (including both of her sons, one who is positive and the other who is negative). Her husband picked up her sons and he is now positive. That nurse recommended that my son get tested on his way home from camp, but the testing facility he had a confirmed appointment with closed. The YMCA arranged private COVID testing at their facility in Alpharetta on Sunday for any camper or staff member who had attended camp that week. It ran from 10am -4pm. My son had his COVID test as soon as they opened, and by 12:30 pm they had run out of tests. Three of my son's counselor friends were not able to get tested until Tuesday this week, because testing facilities are booked up days in advance. To date, my son is aware of over 100 counselors who are positive, including himself. The nurse at camp says "they" believe that the infection occurred during the staff training, prior to campers arriving. They say this because staff members who went to training and then went home because their week to work isn't until later in the summer, have tested positive. I was told that the director of the camp is positive. The information that the YMCA is releasing is not very transparent. To date, they announced one counselor had symptoms, left camp and tested positive. After the closing, they announced more people have been confirmed positive and encourage them to report it to GA Dept. of Public Health. Today they announced more positives including at their sister camp on Lake Allatoona.”

Gotcha. Happy that we’re lucky enough (because of the age of the kids and work circumstances) not to have to do camp this summer. They open in NJ tomorrow.

Us too. And it's been sorta nice. The pace that our family runs just keeps increasing and summers only slightly slower so appreciated, I guess. But school man. How is that supposed to work in 6 weeks? Poorly either way.

Yeah, there’s going to be stories of teachers going to school healthy and dying before thanksgiving and it’s going to be super fucked up.

Yeah it is. Got a solution? Pretty much like a lot of other jobs. Kids are extra gross but theyll be a lot of dead bus drivers and retail clerks too. I'm at a tipping point on this thing. Pretty out of control in the red states and trying to figure out if I'm gonna get it before it's over. If so, I'd rather go for it now.

Fulton is at 366 daily with a population of 1,000,000. I'll assume access to a vaccine on March 31, 2021. 8,652 so far. A straight linear progression would say 1/10. How can I borrow someone's model assumptions to figure how likely I am to get? Feeling like no chance they close down before the election. If schools open in likely to send them. Feeling like odds on covid. If anyone can help would be interested.

You might be late for the "get it now" campaign, because I hear hospital beds are filling up fast. You want to get it when you know there is a bed in case you need it.
