It's sickening. And the short answer is that VA funding doesn't result in pork for Congress like more weapons do. So that's what gets the funding.

Because they are "entitlements" taken by a bunch of lazy drains on society. They just sit around in their hospital beds with their amputated limbs and brain trauma, taking MY money. I support the troops, not like those pansy Libtards trying to avoid wars and take my money to give to those lazy bastards living it in VA hospitals with their free food and no rent.

One thing a Canadian immediately notices in the States is that the military plays such a major part in the country, and in its culture.

It just boggles the mind that the men and women who CHOOSE to serve the country are discarded so quickly when they can no longer play an active role. It's just vile.

US, Taliban sign deal aimed at ending war in Afghanistan
Under the agreement, the U.S. would draw its forces down to 8,600 from 13,000 in the next 3-4 months, with the remaining U.S. forces withdrawing in 14 months.
Just move them here to PSAB since our focus seems to be Iran these days.

Eh, Trump’s Administration is right to end this war. It’s been incredibly counterproductive and there’s no reason to keep a US military presence there. We should’ve called it a day after killing bin Laden (if not sooner since he wasn’t even in Afghanistan).

Australia's defence minister said today that a damning report into alleged war crimes by special forces in Afghanistan had made her 'physically ill', as footage showed an SAS soldier shooting an unarmed man as he cowered in a field.

Linda Reynolds said she was 'totally and utterly shocked and mortified' after the four-year inquiry found evidence that Australian troops had killed 39 unarmed civilians and prisoners during the US-led war in Afghanistan.

Some of the atrocities allegedly committed by Australian SAS members were so horrendous that more than 50 pages in Thursday's report had to be redacted.

The Onion from 10 years ago (almost to the day):

U.S. Quietly Slips Out Of Afghanistan In Dead Of Night

From the AP yesterday:

US left Afghan airfield at night, didn’t tell new commander

It's called OPSEC. Look it up. We don't trust you new people not to tell our enemies.

Bye, bitch.

My buddy sums up my feelings too.

It was always going to end like this. You can't force the people of a country to want to even have a country in the first place.

With little resistance from the Afghan army, does this mean the Taliban are now one of the most well-equipped, as well-equipped as any army in the world, with an airforce? You have to think, much of the equipment, knowledge and man-power are now in Taliban hands?
What a disaster. I'm not sure how things could have turned out worse for the Afghanistan citizens and the entire region.

What should've been a coordinated police action to root out OBL became Cheney/Rumsfeld's war machine. Fuck those fascists.
Instead, the MIC got rich and we got played on the world stage, as Russia, Iran & Saudi Arabia has bankrolled the Taliban for the past twenty years (of course we bankrolled them when they fought the Soviets in the 70s).

There was some wise old Afghani cleric dude I saw last month where his thoughts were captured in a tweet:

I’m not saying it didn’t happen. I’m simply pointing out that is an instance where a deep-fake can make it look a whole lot more impactful (man falling to his death from a thousand feet, for example). After reading the article, the WSJ didn’t discuss the veracity of the video. In today’s age, we need to do being that.

It sounds like the perfect time to bring up something like that, considering this is precisely where they would get used (to sway public opinion one way or the other). Unpopular opinions need to be gauged, lest we find ourselves in a neverending war.

Considering the US military hasn’t won a war since 1945 (for a variety of reasons including and especially political ones) maybe it’s time to consider paring down that $750 billion defense department budget.

Nope. Need to increase it. How else are we ever going to finally win. Works for sports teams, right? The one that spends the most ends up winning. So crank it up to 11 (trillion that is)! Who needs domestic infrastructure? We haven't been attacked in 20 years. And John Bolton told me it was because we have had a presence everywhere in the world. If we don't spend more money and bigger and better guns and missiles and tanks and planes and boats and toilets then we will never win another war. We are America! We always win wars even when we don't. Fuck the poor of our nation! We need to cure the world of these non-Christian terrorists. Only way to do that is to spend more money. Money money money!!!

To that point, I found this article pretty interesting. It's pretty apparent the military leadership does nothing but lie to the civilian leadership (and therefore the American people). There are currently four times as many four-star generals as there was during World War II. (44 to 11).

There's big money in stringing along Americans and depleting the public treasury.
