I feel like they could have made this a week long captive event and removed most potential tech glitches if they set it up where every night at 8:00, the round drafts without trading and then the next day from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM trades were open until the draft restarts. You know this is going to turn into a huge and hilarious mess.

Trades are generally dependent on who's still on the board though, so I don't see how that part would work. Though I agree that it's going to be a hilarious mess.

I would think someone at the ol' Park Avenue office would come up with a fallback option, such as this:

1. League generates a random list of eight character strings (like F32ZX9J1), one for each draft pick plus ten extra character strings for each team, which are compiled on a separate list.
2. League distributes only each team's character strings to specific team employees (say, GM and head of legal department for Jets get the Jets' list only).
3. To make an official pick, the team's GM must call a specific land line at the league office from a predetermined phone line (with caller ID enabled and the number filed in advance with the league, either a direct land line at team headquarters, the GM's cell phone, or whatever). GM must provide the character string to confirm legitimacy, then the pick.
4. In the event of a trade, the GM must provide the character string for the highest pick being sent out, plus all terms of trade (picks for current and future years, plus any current players). Other GM provides reciprocates with that team's corresponding character string and terms of trade. If a team is not trading a pick in the current draft, they use one of the extra character strings prior to providing trade terms. Terms must match for trade to be official.
5. When a team acquires a pick, that pick gets assigned the receiving team's first unused character string for making the pick.
6. Pick becomes official with league office by virtue of the phone call and NFL announces the pick.

Or, fuck it, wi-fi and web conferencing for everyone.

Everybody who’s done an online draft not run by ESPN/Yahoo/CBS and its timer has that one idiot who can’t log in causing a 45 minute delay at the start. Well here there’s going to be 32 of them!

It sounds like the mock draft went well enough and they're going to be forgiving with the clock if there is any hint of technical difficulties.

Did anyone read a report of what the teams actually picked in the mock? Did they just say "here"?
