Bumping with UPDATES! We're going to schedule this out through the end of June, get an idea for participation and where things stand with people being able to get out and about more (maybe...guess we'll know more about that by the end of June hopefully) and evaluate from there if it makes sense to continue through the summer.

Actual sports and not like Korean baseball being on the TV will also play a role on if we schedule out past the end of the June. For now, it looks like first week of July would be absolute best case for the NBA/NHL playoffs and MLB getting up and running. So, without further ado.....

May 21 - Days Of Thunder (Coca Cola 600/Indy 500/Memorial Day weekend)
May 28 - Slap Shot (for start of what would be Stanley Cup Finals)
June 4 - Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls (50th anniversary)
June 11 - Jackie Brown
June 18 - Wild Things (for "official" start of summer)
June 25 - Bottle Rocket
July 2 - Idiocracy (for Independence Day)

Some other movies we're kicking around if anyone wants to lay a marker down and insist we do Movie XYZ:

Heat (1995) - 25th anniversary
They Live
The Running Man
Cop Land
Savages
Red Dawn (1984)

Red Dawn.

Stays with our Swayzee theme from the beginning, plus it is just golden.

Another suggestion would be Remo Williams. Loved that movie as a kid.

There's gotta be a Kurt Russell movie in there somewhere. Anything really.

Tango and Cash!

I do think we need a classic Arnold 80s action flick at some point, and TRM would work.

Red Dawn was my other suggestion for the July 2/Independence Day movie, but Idiocracy seems pertinent, for some reason.

Also, I have suggested Friday Night Lights for late summer for the start of football. There are some others that could work for that theme, obviously, but I think there's a lot of stuff to make fun of, but also have smart commentary about it whereas some other options have a "less realistic', shall we say, depiction of things.

We're not anti- that (and I think someone else suggested it when we first started kicking this idea around). Several of the movies I've suggested are because I've stashed them in the DVR after getting free weekends of HBO, etc. from DirecTV in the last couple months (such as tonight's feature).

We're trying to maintain week-to-week variety (in quality of movie, as well as genre, etc.) as well as trying to do some themed stuff and pick ones that allow for a good level of commentary.

Are we still adding to the schedule? I would second Commando and They Live from the suggestions above.

Is Teen Wolf a possibility? Or does Bill Simmons's obsession with it make it a no-go for brian?

Good questions.

As it stands, I think I'm pretty much committed to trying to stay home for the foreseeable future and I'm not averse to scheduling out through the end of July which would take us up to the NBA and NHL playoffs starting (hopefully) and MLB starting (hopefully), so if there's more interest than from just me and DSafe I'm down.

I'm definitely up for Commando. I don't have a problem with Teen Wolf other than I watched it too much as a...well, teen...and don't know if there's enough there there to support a group viewing, but I wouldn't veto it if the group wanted to.

I mentioned it a while back, but I cannot recommend Samurai Cop hard enough. It's the The Room of action movies.

So, does everyone know what happens at the end of "Teen Wolf"?

I'm not talking about during the celebration scene.

We've decided to schedule this out through at least the end of July and then again make a decision from there. As long as Swampers are interested in doing it and we're not running into conflicts with the potential NBA/NHL playoffs, might as well keep going.

June 25 - Bottle Rocket
July 2 - Idiocracy (for Independence Day)
July 9 - Red Dawn (1984) (call it a July 4th America doubleheader)
July 16 - Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
July 23 - Commando
July 30 - Viewer's Choice (we'll do a poll a couple weeks before or something)

We're two weeks out from Viewers' Choice Night on July 30.

Please drop your suggestions (and any seconding, etc. of suggestions) below. Brian and I will probably pick a few options for a separate thread with a poll (as well as make notes for future weeks).

We're planning on running things into September, pending the disastrous (or not?) returns of sports. One of the movies yet to be slotted will help you understand this tweet, if you don't already:

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (it sadly didn't)
or
Black Belt Jones (if we are okay with blaxplotation films)

I championed Samurai Cop before, so I'll put it up for consideration again.

They Live is a good choice, though.

So looks like DSafe has work obligations in August and we all will hopefully have NBA and NHL to watch soon (though who knows, obvs) so think we're going to put a pin in these until the fall. We should know by Labor Day if the NFL is going to happen and if any wrenches get thrown into the NBA/NHL playoff bubbles and go from there.

Best case scenario (sports-wise) where the NBA and NHL crown a champion and the NFL happens, I'm game for moving this to Wednesday nights and starting up again around October 1.

Any interest (other than me and DSafe) in firing this up again through the rest of the winter? Maybe about a 10-11 week schedule from mid-February through most of April and then a reset at that point to see what commitment is for spring/summer?

Guessing Wednesday or Thursday would be best, probably Thursday again. Discussing Soul Man got me thinking we should watch that together before it’s inevitably pulled from streaming/rental networks one day.

Commitment doesn’t mean every week. We have lives, but if you think you’d be able to do more than 50 percent of a 10-11 week run, let us know.

Never seen it, but even when it was released I had a similar reaction as I do now looking at this picture:
"Jesus fucking christ!! What were they thinking?"
"beautiful, with an exotic-yet-familiar facial structure and an arresting gaze."
