Wes Miller, UNC-Greensboro, has to be a candidate.

Head coach for ten years there, including 125-43 in the last five seasons with his worst record in that time being either 25-10 or 21-9 (this year's shortened season). Three regular season conference titles and two NCAA berths in the last five, plus a third tourney appearance in his first season. Played three seasons at UNC after transferring from James Madison, started half his junior year.

So there isn't a former player with no college coaching experience that they can hire? Some big time school they are.

I just picked my favorite random Tar Heel to see if ever got into coaching and it turns out that Eric Montross...
co-founded an organization called Vaccine Ambassadors, which aims to distribute vaccines all over the world, especially to developing countries, and help children (and in 1994) he started the Eric Montross Fathers Day Basketball Camp. The camp has raised over one million dollars for the UNC Children's hospital.

If Jay Wright had any career ambition or desire to challenge himself at all, he'd be a great candidate here.

That's a good one, too. But has anyone ever won two titles and went to a blue blood instead of just staying (or moving to a far less successful school a la Bob Knight for obvious reasons.)

Williams probably has his own ideas about who should get the job and it's likely it's going to be someone he's anointed or at least approves of. Hard to imagine he'd retire without that.

No, but Roy leaving Kansas for UNC is kinda like that. Kinda.

Wes Miller has been on the unofficial UNC coaching watch for a while now. And yeah, I bet they're poking around with Brad Stevens too. Jay Wright would be a pretty amazing hire. If Chris Beard hadn't just gone to Texas, I wonder if he wouldn't have been on the list. Maybe Nate Oats from Alabama as well.

Unlike Indiana, UNC is a real blue blood and there's almost nobody who they couldn't reasonably talk to.

It’ll come down to money if guys like Few or Wright wish to leave better situations they are in for UNC.

They are gods where they are now. If things don’t go well at UNC, they’ll be pariahs.

Few ain't going anywhere. He's had plenty of opportunities over the years (I remember years ago when UW people were thinking they could entice him to leave Spokane) and has never even really considered them.

He'll retire at Gonzaga and they'll put his statue up right next to the one of Bing Crosby (noted alum).

Apparently Wright turned down UCLA (who offered double the money he’s making at Villanova). Obviously UCLA isn’t UNC, but I’m not sure coaching a blue blood program carries the same cache it once did.

That would be hilarious if schools put up statues of random old-school celebrities.

50% of scholarship players transferring makes me think either some school is going to form an NBA-ish super team or a mid-major might have a chance to get a one year bounce into the top 10.

Nothing specific that I've heard, other than maybe the team consistently underachieving based on the supposed caliber of players being brought in.

I think a lot of the movement is simply because players can transfer without penalty. There is no longer motivation to stay in a program and try to develop/earn a larger role because there is no redshirt year as a consequence for transferring.

When you think about it, Roy Williams totally white-knighted a floundering UNC program. He didn't have to leave Kansas.

Can't wait to see which mediocre ACC/SEC program gets to be Miller's consolation prize in the next two years.

North Carolina is one of those schools where you don’t have to do much coaching to have success. Obviously it’s better if you can but you can win there getting a couple McDonalds All-Americans every year and not being an idiot. I wouldn’t necessary assume he’s gonna fail.
