This is easily the worst game the VGK have played since March 6 and they're still up a goal after two, so that's something.

someone emailed me this morning about Milbury's comments yesterday (thankful i never have to listen to NBC coverage - get Yonder.tv all you MLB/NHL subscribers. $30/yr to kill all blackouts and choose any available feed) regarding preventing long OTs.

a. a 5OT happens on average once every what 20 years?

b. my family were over yesterday (socially distanced in our open garage) to watch the Buffalo Blue Jays opener, most are baseball>hockey but when i got texts from friends saying that game was ending the 3rd OT literally everyone was like "PUT THE HOCKEY GAME ON!" - proving at least on a small scale literally the opposite of what the Moron was pushing.

c. also he referred to the CN Tower as the space needle.

Quite literally every 20 years. I was supposed to be writing a paper as soon as Flyers vs Penguins ended and that wound up being like 3:00 AM.

Looks like might be 2 for 2 in OT games in Toronto bubble. Don't suppose Maple Leaf Gardens (or whatever it's called these days) is in the bubble as well?

Ditto. My wife and I went to the bar in Maui at 9AM to watch Hawks/Wild. It was great.

That's a fall Saturday in Vegas. (Not hockey obvs, but still.)

What are the odds this late game in Toronto today gets played? 50/50?

less than 50/50. I just set my fanduel lineup with no habs or flyers.

There should have been two penalties on that play. Bergeron's stick was slashed in as he was about to shoot, during the delayed penalty.

Need to start making my DK picks. I got in on a weird promo where I ended up getting a 72$ free bet but I had to use it and all at once, so I put it on the Canes in that one. Easy come, easy go.

This Caps - Isles game got chippy almost immediately. Carlson(!) and Lee got into it after Lee crushed Backstrom in an open ice hit. A tiny bit late, but more the principle of going after #19. I don't remember the last time he took a hit like that. (He appears fine.)

Wilson just tagged Lee's face up for a bit. Good for Lee, frankly.

That should cover that hit, at least for now.

9 PIM for Wilson in the 1st? Had to have what, half that, in ice time?

Backstrom didn't come back out after the intermission.

Fuck.

Concussion history.

Now I'm officially pissed. Lee better miss some games.

It was late and away from the play. Dirty.

But man could he have run him a lot harder than he did. I know that doesn't matter with history of concussion but I'm surprised he's having problems. That's not cracking the top 100 bad open ice hits I've seen in the last 5 years.

This was my first thought. Like he knew it was way late and Backstrom had no idea it was coming, so he just stiffened up and let physics take over.

It wasn't in terms of speed, but the force is dead-center and direct. Backstrom is skating forward and in an instant he's completely reversed going over backwards; he just completely absorbed the full impact. Obviously hoping for far better results, but it looked a lot like the Phaneuf hit that ended Michael Sauer's career where every time you watch it the physics look worse.

Holy shit, this dude is clearly reading the swamp!

New York Islanders captain Anders Lee knocked Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom out of Wednesday night's first-round series opener, setting the tone with a big hit that Washington coach Todd Reirden called "late" and "predatory."

This Philly-Montreal series is a definite meteor series if not for the fact this year it would kill six others teams. (Another two or so which would be no big loss either I’ll tell you.)

Typically means you'd like both teams to perish in a freak meteor shower accident.

I'm not debating it was a hell of a hit. I'm just noting that it looks fairly innocuous based on the speed that most blind side "dirty" open ice hits happen it. It's just a strange looking play is all.

So is Brian saying that the Flyers and the Has are bigger assholes than other teams? Or it would be better for VGK if one of those teams got KO'd before they hit the Finals?

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I saw him post this when I was working and watching the game at the same time last night, and I've had the "Fucker Carlson when someone is making salient points on his show" face every time I reread it.

Its like answering "a plane crash" when asked who you want to advance. Flyers are self-evidently awful and Montreal has the worst or second worst fans in hockey.

Gotcha. I once had to explain Habs fans to a guy who doesn't follow hockey, and told them to imagine the humility of Yankees fans crossed with the civility of the 700 level.

Yeah, you guys sussed it out. Like when the Patriots play the Cowboys (theoretically) in a Super Bowl, all you're rooting for is a meteor to hit the site of the game and destroy both teams and all their fans.

No disciplinary action for Anders Lee.

I have to say, a dirty hit that knocks one of the best players in the league out of the game. Dude should get a game for that hit, minimum.

Even more than suspensions, because "player safety" will never come around, they need to VAR those hits so it materially affects the game.

Hmm I've always enjoyed Hab fans way better than Oiler, Leaf and Canuck fans.

Maybe for me it's because Habs fans were very cordial when we won our Cup there.
