For Cub fans of a certain age, Wrigley is just returning to its natural, pre-1984 condition.

That’s the road map. CG wins from every starter. Seems doable.

So we had some excitement yesterday. Starting Marlins pitcher in their second of the two-bill yesterday is one of my step-sons closest friends. He was making his debut, and did pretty damn well. Can confirm he’s a good kid (at least around us). Excellent gif following a gem play by his 3B:

So the Blue Jays have 1 comptent starter and the bullpen is entirely gassed. They are missing the playoffs.
I freaking love their lineup, and really hope they can sort out the pitching staff for next season.

The Blue Jays are going nowhere with their idiot manager. Why does Shaw keep hitting 3rd? Why is Gurriel hitting 7th? Why pull Stripling after 3.1 when leading in a doubleheader when the bullpen is gassed? When the Yankees were up 8-1 why pull the starter after 2 innings when you have coming up 6 games in 5 days. You are not coming back. The Yankees hit 20 home runs in a 3 game series, at least throw inside. At least pretend you're mad.
A Jays starter has not thrown a pitch in the 7th this year, and last year no Jays starter won 7 games. That's insane.

The big story from last night ... the Cubs clinched their sixth straight winning season. Before that, they had seven winning seasons from the time I was 7 until I was 49.

Ron Gardenhire announced his retirement as the Tigers' manager before their game, effective immediately. He was replaced by Lloyd McClendon.

Gardenhire cited the stress of this season and hasn't been feeling well since a bout of food poisoning, but there was also some squabbling earlier in the year that he wanted an extension, which he did not receive.

Yeah, I think that because he's old enough to not be worried about getting hired again and dealing with all the weirdness this season, he may have just said, "fuck it, I'm out."

I suppose that’s fair. In a regular season I could see a guy opting out with 30 games or so left if management clearly said they were moving on.

Could be him being a “good baseball man” and letting his guy get a look. Odds are McClendon has zero chance at the job if Gardenhire is let go in the offseason so this raises chances atleast a little.

McClendon has been on the Tigers' staff for 12 years since Leyland took over in 2006. I think they know what (little) McClendon has to offer.

Trevor Bauer, on 3 days rest in a game that is crucial to the Reds trying to make the playoffs, has turned in a performance that ought to get him the Cy Young.

He’s under 100 pitches and I’m afraid they will trot him back out but I hope they don’t because they may need him Sunday!

That said it was a nice late season push moment you are right about that.

That effort in the 6th with runners at 1st and 3rd and no one out to strike the 2-3-4 hitters for Milwaukee was a good as I have seen from a Reds pitcher in clutch spot in a long, long time. Since vintage Cueto, at least.

Usually I think it’s horseshit if a team overuses a contract year pitcher (even if the pitcher is willing) but we’ll make an exception here.
