The extra innings rule is awful..

And if you told me in February that the Pirates would only be 2 games out of first in late July, I would call you crazy.

The best part of no fans is not hearing half the stadium act as if a routine fly out is a HR shot.

Apparently it makes it easier for the Astros to hear the trash cans if the first two games are any indication!

Shit. Just got through The Athletic article about the four positive tests over the weekend and why they played anyway on Sunday.

This is fucked up (from that article):
Marlins manager Don Mattingly said his team “never really considered not playing” on Sunday. The club’s most respected veteran, shortstop Miguel Rojas, told the media afterward that all 30 players discussed the situation Sunday morning, but said not playing was “never our mentality.”
They should cancel the Marlins season now, put the Phillies on hold, and...

Just kidding. MLB should cancel the season because it is clear the teams are not dealing with the pandemic as they should and the NFL and college sports should realize it has no chance of working without a bubble and postpone their seasons immediately. They should even go so far as to say, "we can come back safely sooner if you wear a mask, follow social distancing headlines, etc."

Is it impertinent to point out that it was always going to be one of the two Florida teams that led to this attempt to play the season turning into a shitshow?

Cool to see MLB is following the Trump admin's lead of abdicating all leadership responsibility and pushing the onus down to the lowest level of authority.

So with the Yankees and Phillies postponed again tonight, does that mean (1) MLB is now being overcautious until Philadelphia is proven negative or (2) the Phillies have some positive tests incoming from their series with Florida and the season is barely hanging on?

I think the former, but under Manfred, can't rule out the latter.

I just wonder what Manfred's tipping point is. Someone hospitalized? Or are owners hoping for players to walkout for some strategic reason?

While I don't agree with any of these stupid morons tweeting that "they're listing car accident deaths as COVID deaths to get more funding hurhurhur", that's pretty fucking funny.

Looks like Washington is about to refuse a trip to Florida for the upcoming weekend. Should be veeeeeeery interesting to see if Manfred imposes a 14 day quarantine on the Marlins to save face here.

If baseball only played once a week, they could probably get away with testing lags and two-week quarantines. But how the hell can they do this with teams playing every day? If you quarantine the Marlins for 14 days, what happens to the rest of the league?

Same question. You can't keep rescheduling multiple teams on different 14 day cycles. The season will last 2 years.
