I've long been braying for the VGK shoulder patch against a red background for the third jersey but O Ye Gods I hate the '80's Canuck thing happening at the bottom.

Pronman did his top 155(!) under 23 and ... it was a really lovely read for a Rangers fan. nine on the list, four in the top 50 and two in the top ten.

If it makes you feel better, our returns from the McDonagh/JTM trade are 93 and unranked and the 93 is strongly argued as too high by Rangers fans.

Flames have signed Nesterov. Was good offensively with the Lightning and then became a liability? Played in the KHL last year.

The fact that it was an ongoing ordeal (not just one horrible incident) and that he never personally apologized to his victim would dampen the "he was just a kid, he deserves a second chance" defense for any reasonable person.

Not a great draft for them. No 1st rounder next year either. Enough to make me wish they were staying in a division with the VGK.

Division realignment is not a done deal. But, it'd be surprising if they weren't in the same division in any case.

I thought it was already settled that Arizona was going to move to the Central when Seattle comes in 2021-22?

Like most sports teams, they're content to look the other way when it comes to bad actors. Being the Coyotes and what little media coverage they get, they probably figured they would skate on this.

1. I thought you were referring to the rumors of a Canadian division (in the case of a closed border), which would cause all divisions to realignment.
2. I actually had missed the news that the Yotes are scheduled to move to the Central (but I did find it on the innerwebs after I saw your post.)

Even before this, every Rangers fan thinks there's going to be a big trade there. Teams have done business in the past and the Rangers are probably best suited of any team to punt a year in the draft.

OK, I kinda tried to rattle this off to my hockey buddies but I'll jump in here to see if there's any traction for discussion.

Kid is an asshole to other kid, racist and a bully as a child/teen. This is learned behavior. This is parents that knew this and were OK with it. This is coaches that swept this under the rug because the kid had talent. Then it comes up and they do some half asses apology tour and it goes away again. I've got a good inkling that the kid didn't learn a lesson or feel remorse, he was told "we got caught and we have to make sure this looks right for your future so put on a happy face and do the dance". Again, likely by coaches and parents at the USHL and NCAA level. Then his name goes up in lights and people start digging and get to this. He's now facing repercussions for being a shitty human being and rightfully so. He's going to lose everything he's worked for and that's a fair trade. But I can't help but get around how no one else is held responsible here. Racism and hatefulness is a learned behavior, and now I'm supposed to clap for UND and PHX and say "look at the way they stood their ground"? They fucking didn't. Everyone in this situation got caught not really giving a fuck about what happened until their image was at stake. And they'll do it again because the next kid is going to have potential.

Yeah, I'd definitely agree that the fact that this occurred over a lengthy time period *probably* means others (adults) knew he was a shitty person and didn't do anything to correct it.

In terms of repercussions, not only is that family now living with the shame of it all, but his earning potential was surely being factored into the retirement plans of his parents.

Now, he's going to have a tough time gutting it out in some far flung locale in some minor league until this blows over. And it will, it always does.

And to be fair, if having your life completely fucked and having to struggle to find redemption teaches you a harsh and meaningful lesson... Kid is 18... Deserves a shot at turning his life around.

Detroit Free Press carried the Arizona Republic article about the 'Yotes renouncing the kid's rights, as he is from Sylvania, a Toledo suburb, and the victim lives in Detroit. Here are a couple snippets...
Isaiah Meyer-Crothers said all he ever wanted was an apology from Miller. He noted that had Miller not bullied him and tricked him into licking candy that Miller and another teen had placed in a urinal, his former classmate would still be a NHL draft pick.

-- snip --

Also, the team chose Miller one month after Coyotes President and CEO Xavier Gutierrez was named to the NHL's Executive Inclusion Council, a group the league said will focus on combating racism and fostering diversity in the sport.

-- snip --

Joni Meyer-Crothers said she was sick to her stomach when she found out Miller was cut, but he still has not personally apologized to her son or family.

"It's a very sad situation all the way around," she said. "And now we are getting threats from hockey families in Sylvania."

A police report obtained by The Republic detailed incidents of bullying and harassment, and in an interview with The Republic, Meyer-Crothers relived the racist and physical abuse he suffered from Miller.

Miller was ordered by a judge to issue an apology to the family, which he did, but the family said it never received it.

Story was also in the NyTimes today...

N.H.L. Team Drops Top Draft Pick Accused of Racist Bullying
The Arizona Coyotes said on Thursday that they had renounced the rights to their top pick in this year’s N.H.L. draft after a published report described the player’s 2016 conviction in a juvenile-court case related to bullying of a Black classmate who has a developmental disability.

The Coyotes said they knew about the abusive history when they drafted the player, Mitchell Miller, an 18-year-old defenseman, in the fourth round, according to the report in The Arizona Republic, Miller, who is now a free agent, provided all 31 N.H.L. teams with a letter before the draft, saying he regretted what he had done and providing character references.

I'm guessing sancarlos got a letter from the Sharks today? The first step to a new arena. With the Isles and Flames getting their new buildings, San Jose and Anaheim will have the oldest buildings in the league.

The San Jose Sharks on Thursday raised concerns about being forced out of the SAP Center in the city’s downtown because of plans for massive development projects near the sports complex and Diridon train station.

The hockey team, in an open letter to fans and supporters on Thursday, said it has become increasingly alarmed that the proposals for the development of an array of projects on the western edges of downtown San Jose could imperil the future of the Sharks in the Bay Area’s largest city.

Yep. But, I think the odds of them moving are pretty remote. They've got a lease through 2025, and are pretty entrenched in the South Bay Area. I think they just want to bitch at the city for digging up the roads around the arena. It is going to fuck up traffic and parking around the arena. If we ever start going to games again, that is.
