Are you ready for some NHL Draft excitement!

No, me neither. Probably only Mr. D.

There was an article (mercifully, subscriber only) in one of the local papers saying Detroit was going to set the tone for the rest of the first round with their pick. Yes, dipshit, that's usually how it works for the team picking fourth when there is a significant drop-off after the first three picks.

Sharks get goalie Devan Dubnyk and winger Ryan Donato from Minnesota for a bag of pucks. Sounds like great trades on the surface but I don’t know how they can make it work with the salary cap. Probably another shoe to drop in the near future.

That's a really good deal for the Sharks.

I think so, too. Really need an upgrade in goal, and I think Donato can be a player, too. But, they've got a lot of money tied up in Martin Jones, so I don't know how this is going to work, cap-wise. They'd love to unload Jones, but nobody wants his contract. They have to unload one of their pricey players. I'm just guessing, but I think Brent Burns might be the one.

Jones would be an ok buyout on dollars and an ugly buyout on length.

I can’t see anyone wanting Burns’ contract at this point. If they can unload him without having to retain any salary that’s a win-win from a cap standpoint. Burns is still useful but doesn’t seem to be aging gracefully (few players do).

A few leaks today about the Rangers taking a lot of calls about #1. Would love to know what kind of value is being offered and if my dumb but logical three team trade has come up.

(Only reason the leaks are interesting is because it either means some teams are really in love with Lafreniere or the Rangers want there to be interest around the pick.)

Red Wings have ten picks, including three seconds and a couple thirds, so I'd wonder if they'd be interested even though Yzerman said he expects to use all those picks, if not make deals to acquire more.

we.... like to do things differently.

.....

(i got so excited when Adams said "from the Ottawa 67s..." and then....)

sigh.

i kind of remember when the Sabres were seen as somewhat of a model franchise.

to be fair, i was 10.

Yeah, there's nothing worse than blowing a lottery pick on the spot. Like Lias Andersson, as soon as they picked him and the analysis was "upside of a 2C but should play soon" it was obvious they were trying to fill a hole and passing on a better prospect. Rangers loss was Buffalo's gain there as I assume Mittelstadt has established himself as a 55-60 point center by now?

It started off as genuine commiseration and just spiraled when I remembered who I really wanted at the Lias pick.

i mean....sigh. it's way too easy and i know wrong to throw stones at a pick that hasn't had a chance to truly develop yet. And Quinn could actually be a late peaking talent, it's not uncommon. In which case maybe this is a great pick. .....

it's just hard to trust anything Sabres-organizational over the past 5-7 years.
