He isn't incapacitated or dead, so nothing at this time. Right now the ballots are set. Pretty sure he would have to die.

The President getting COVID? Sure, been waiting for that news for a while. Not a hoax.

The First Lady? Don’t you need actual interaction with an infected person?

Wouldn’t it be great if Pence tests positive, meaning Pelosi could take over and she then pulls ACB SCOTUS nomination?

I'm conditioned to think anything this admin does is a ploy, but I do take a little comfort in TB's tweet above. But even if everything is on the level, look at the public outpouring of support from people who should be blaming him for his own condition and the condition of hundreds of thousands.

Exactly right. Every joke (that doesn't mention death because a visit from the secret service is never good) and chance to push his hypocrisy into his face is fair game -- and many are doing that! -- but just like Maddow's tweet, it's mostly somber "get well soon" bullshit.

FUCK. THAT.

there's no legal obligation to post that first response to social media

given the position that you're in and how many times you've said that you wished you could actually publicly say what you wanted but can't, I would think that this wouldn't be a sticking point for you

Is there a better outcome than it being legit, him passing, and people being asked, "since he's been telling you COVID is fake all this time, what else do you think he may have been lying about?" and having reasonable responses?

I'll go sober up now.

Everyone already knows all this and don't care. As you guys have said before, intelligent people who are pro-life, do they care that Trump lies about everything or cheat on his taxes? To the republicans, he's just a puppet to pass their policies. Without him, they'd be in opposition forever.

To be clear, I don't think it helps. I think they're just dumb enough to think they may be able to spin some sympathy. I was quite not sober last night as well, not expecting to have to watch Cardinals baseball, which is one of my least favorite things to do.

I'm looking forward to hearing how all the spokespeople spin this into a positive. Likely attacking Dems for being heartless and cruel for cheering for Trump to die, even if nobody does. In reality, I just don't see any way this is a positive for the campaign. Yeah, my first thought on anything Trump or the WH releases is that it's a lie and what's the angle, but this is a negative to Trump in so many ways, there is no positive reason to make this up. Sure, an excuse to get out of the debates, but Trump truly believes he crushed it, and I'm sure all of his aids are propping up his delusions. If they didn't, they would have been fired already.

I've been saying since the 2016 election that Trump's demented ego can't handle losing, and he would drop out or make an excuse if he lost or if there was no way to win. My first thought was that if he dies, at least he avoids the ego hit or facing the reality of losing, so basically everyone wins.

My fear with all this, is if Trump doesn't get sick or has very mild symptoms, he will come out believing the virus is not a big deal, and all semblance of pretending to care about public health will be gone, and he will crank up his push to open everything, push his scorn for mask wearers, and influence his sheep to shun precautions and drive up the spread.

Another point, Trump knew Hicks was positive and he was exposed for several days. He still went to the debate with his crew refusing to wear masks, and he attended a fundraising event in NJ. He knowingly exposed a room full of his wealthiest donors. I really wonder what they are thinking right now, as I'm sure mask wearing was not encouraged.

Possible positives:
- Two week timeout when things are swirling around him
- Centrist sympathy
- Backlash against lack of sympathy (don't underrate this one)
- Mild case = Big strong man triumphantly defeats virus he told you wasn't a big deal anyway
