This is so transparently an attempted bribe for votes. Can't believe he can just go and do this sort of thing.

I read that the Admin finally negotiated an agreement with drug companies to reduce prices, but it fell through as they insisted drug companies pay for and issue gift cards labelled "Trump Cards" to consumers (not sure who qualified to get them). If true, we all continue to pay insane drug prices because of this small, petty man's deranged need to put his name on everything.

So my wife and I have done a few rounds of texting. It's been pretty satisfying so far. It's actually hard to get a set of contacts to send to, because there are so many volunteers that as soon as a new texting campaign is put out, people jump in. Just in the last half-hour they had 1600 volunteers send texts to half a million fellow young people about an upcoming Biden-Harris virtual rally.
Unsolicited text messages are a surefire way to make me hate you.

I received 4 of the same copy paste text on Saturday last weekend that said "Hi I'm X with (progressive campaign fund) and I'm going to be making calls to get out the vote this year. Can I count on you to help me?"

Does that shit work? Does that drive people to action?

It does for some. I think it's mostly people who were thinking about doing it anyway and just needed a push or needed the link to be put in front of their face. Like me - I knew I was going to volunteer eventually, but hadn't taken the initiative to find out how and where, then I got one of the unsolicited texts from the Biden campaign and clicked a couple of links and went on.

One "problem" though is that there are a lot of different groups doing it. It's not just the Biden campaign, but other candidate campaigns, state parties, independent groups, etc. Which is great in most ways, but it means folks get spammed like you did even if they tell the first texter they want to opt out.

I figure a text is less intrusive than calling. I've signed up for phone bank training this weekend because it appears they need more people to do that, but I'm less comfortable doing it. At least for now, when it's a "persuade them to vote for Biden" script - I think I'll be more into that when it's GOTV stuff.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Yeah, I'm getting a lot of those texts and it's annoying. At the same time, I appreciate the effort and I hope it works. If you call me, I ain't answering, so I guess text is the only way to reach most people.

Texting people to remind and educate them on voting is one thing, texting them to watch a virtual rally is probably annoying.

Shit like this gives me hope a bit..
“President Trump refuses to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses. But his team is carefully developing plans for that very outcome,” Politico reports.

“One of the most organized and functional parts of the Trump White House these days is a surprising place — the West Wing office planning a potential presidential transition.”

This is also pretty surprising... Senate passed a bill about transition of power.

Maybe some of these folks will wake up and start to move away from Trump. Romney and Portman both have came out against the President on this. Only people I know that pretty much was with him were Gym Jordan and Graham.

During the primaries I received about 10 text reminders to vote, mostly from my Dem House Rep's campaign and the County Dem Committee. I kind of assumed they were robo texts, despite saying "Hi, this is Bob Smith from..." I found them annoying and made me angry towards the candidate. There weren't any primaries I cared about as Biden already accepted the nomination before NJ got to vote. I thought about voting for Bernie, as he remained on the ballot, just to show I think Biden is a shitty candidate, but I didn't bother. I think a phone call could be useful to a low-info voter who is undecided or not sure if they will vote, but I think phone calls are much more intrusive, and most people won't answer calls from numbers they don't recognize. I don't know what the answer is, because campaigns have to do something, especially now that rallies are out of the question for non-sociopathic candidates who care about their supporters spreading a virus during a pandemic.

So remember how I signed up to get emails from my local Republican party to learn their strategies? Here is the email I just got:
Those creepy fucks wrote:Stopping fraud.

Hi neighbor,

Many concerned Republicans have been asking me what they can do to prevent voter fraud and election-day mistakes at the polls.

There is something you can do.

We urgently need Republican volunteers to work at the Haverford Township polls on election day ... to hand out literature on candidates and to observe inside poll workers.

You won't be alone—right now it looks like we have almost enough Republicans to cover each polling place. But we need as many eyes as possible.

Remember the voting disaster in the primary election this Spring? Some areas of Delaware County had over 100% turnout(!) and some areas had zero votes counted.

Imagine if that happens this fall with the state, and possibly the very election in the balance.

The 2016 presidential race in Pennsylvania was determined by a margin smaller than 1%.

Imagine if things are like Florida in 2000.

And with the political climate we are in right now, who knows what kind of insanity that might bring to Delaware County.

We have got to do everything we can to avoid that.

Having a strong, visible presence at the polls (inside AND outside) is the #1 way we can prevent fraud, misinformation, and mistakes.

Will you help?

Please respond to this email with "I can help!", your name, and your phone number if you can help us on election day—even for just a few hours.

It could make all the difference
in the presidential election and, without exaggeration, the direction of the country.

[Imjay Appkna]

I guess I'll state the obvious:

1) This isn't an actual thing you can do. As stated above, you can only be near a polling place (varies how far away "volunteers" can hang out and either engage with voters or hand them literature.) You can't set up shop inside of a polling place to "observe."

2) The Trump campaign/Republicans know this, obviously. This is yet another insidious effort to put the notion of fraud in front of millions of mouthbreathers. When Trump loses, there will be "anecdotes" from "observers" passed around on social media to "prove" that the election was fraudulent.

3) The media should be debunking this shit, but they won't because it looks like they are taking a political side. Throughout this mess, they have ALWAYS waited too long to step in and call bullshit. They've gotten better, but they should really understand that this is a fundamental threat to democracy, it's not "taking sides."

Well, sure, like most things in society.

It's literally against the law. And if they do it in predominately Democratic districts, the folks working the polls are gonna call the cops.

So, good luck with that?

(Again, this isn't really about actually doing this... It's about the messaging and framework.)

Friend,

President Trump is a pretty good golfer, but he is a GREAT PRESIDENT! Don’t you want to meet your favorite President?

President Trump invited you to meet him at his event in New Jersey, but when he saw the most recent list of Patriots who entered, he noticed your name was MISSING. Why is that?

You’ve always been one of his TOP supporters, so NOT entering just isn’t like you. The President can’t imagine having anyone else there as his VIP guest, so he asked us to reach out to give you another chance to enter.

This could be your LAST CHANCE to meet the President of the United States before the Election, so don’t wait.

All you have to do is contribute ANY AMOUNT by 11:59 PM TONIGHT and you’ll automatically be entered to win a trip to meet President Trump in New Jersey. >>

It's a lot of internet bluster and bullshit.

What, exactly in actual practice, are these guys going to be doing? It's one thing to meet protestors in the street. What, they're gonna roll up on a bunch of black people in downtown areas and wave guns while people wait to vote??

Just think this through a bit. It's all an attempt to SCARE people, and frankly anyone helping promote this as a real thing is part of the problem.

I don't mean on here, but if you're on Facebook or Twitter "worrying" about this... That's not good.

Sure, but if they can get a guy to hit a 12 year old with a flag pole.. Then they can get people to sit outside polls with guns and intimidate voters.

https://www.jacksonville.com/story/news ... 823802002/

I am not worried cause I live in a small area, but some of the bigger cities are going to be total shit shows. These people are desperate and will do anything, trump is enticing them. Considering he has his people going to cities during protests armed. This won't be a big deal.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but I would bet you a lot of money that absolutely nothing is going to happen.

Keeping in mind, this little sidebar started when you said people are going to be shot.

That's what I'm talking about.

And I'm going to reiterate, if you think a bunch of white crackers are going to show up in The Big City in broad daylight and brandish guns at (presumably black) people... That's just not realistic.

An top-down organized armed march? I don't see that and I agree with Nonlinear. But in a country of 330 million people, 40% of whom are beholden to this dipshit? There will almost certainly be some one-offs, just from law of averages.

I'll take the action.

If we go back on these threads and count the amount of times people were predicting utter and complete societal meltdowns only to wake up the next day and, while, yes, things are overall very fucked... It's not the end of times, as predicted.

Most recent example is Louisville, if we want to save some searching time and effort.

BTW:

1) I've been guilty of this, so I'm not trying to shame anyone... Just asking for folks to take it down a notch. Or not. Whatever. You're all good dudes and the anxiety is completely understandable.

2) I'm not saying it's impossible to fathom some random act of violence happening somewhere. But the picture being painted is widespread mayhem on election day. That's what I'm betting against. Not some random act of violence.

Just so we're clear. Many folks on here saying Election Day is going to be a "shitshow."

I disagree with that prediction.

This is where I think we disagree. It won't be "random." It will be because some dipshit feels empowered/scared by the president's rhetoric. A high school kid snapping for whatever reason is pretty random. This wouldn't be that.

Yeah I missed the mark on Louisville. I'm glad that I did! As we discussed here, they authorities probably got that right.

eta: I wrote that second part before seeing that Vice has some body camera footage that is being scruitinized. I haven't done a deep dive.

Whats the over under on date of concession. Have to wait for mail in. Pretty much means no shot at a winner on election night?
