I'm going to need to do a post-pandemic audit of which ones we're paying for versus which come with some other subscription. Its been too easy to just add one when "there's absolutely nothing else to do".

Missed it because it was on Poppycock
Yeah, I was really pissed before the game, even more pissed after. I don't know how much longer I can refuse to pay for all of these new pay platforms. If I can convince my wife to drop cable, I could justify it, but I'm boycotting in hopes that the concept doesn't win out, and they stop making us buy every channel individually.
I got ESPN+ and Willow TV, both for 12 months at $49, basically a buck a week, I've drawn a line at Poppycock, CBS All Access, etc.

Who would've thought Allardyce would be the first EPL manager to beat Tuchel.

Also, I love that the West Brom goalkeeper got an assist on one of the goals. Allardyce is a master tactician.

You think his tactics included playing a man up for 60 minutes? Because that is a good strategy.

Christ, Everton has to be the slowest team in the history of the league.

Still might be better than Spurs tho

Spurs have the capability of playing an up tempo game, they just choose not to. Fo some strange reason...

I think it's inevitable, whether it's now or in 5 years from now or 10. There's too much money to be made, or more importantly, too much money that doesn't have to be shared with others.

The only angle they have to stop this is FIFA and UEFA threating eligibility for a national team stuff. Then it will be $ for $.

But how much of that money trickles down to the players? I can definitely envision a future where players signed to a Super League club would rather not risk injury by playing internationally, much like how NBA players dictate the terms of when they will play for their country. International soccer pays better and has more cache, but will that matter?

And from the clubs' perspective, the answer to this would seem to be "don't threaten me with a good time."

Over the longer term it puts players in a position of big $ versus National Team....and lets be fair that will mean Nike, Adidas, etc will have an angle in the conversation. The only folks I feel bad for right now are the players who have contracts now on those teams and will be put in the middle of something (Dest, Pulisic, McKinnie, Reyna if the Germans Join, etc.). My question is what will FifaPro and the courts do in this one.

As long as everyone is clear this is not for the good of the game. This is a money grab from the big clubs to take it from UEFA.

Me wishing: I wish the US could finally have world class players at the major Euro clubs so we can challenge the world powers in the World Cup.

The Athletic is reporting 12 teams have confirmed they're moving to the Super League. The teams are:

AC Milan
Arsenal
Atletico Madrid
Barcelona
Chelsea
Inter Milan
Juventus
Liverpool
Man U
Man City
Real Madrid
Tottenham

Considering the popularity of the FIFA game - and FIFA's licensing arrangement with EA Sports - I wonder if these 12 teams will be omitted from the next version.

Oh I imagine it would still exist, since there are 50 some odd national league champions that don’t participate in this. Will people watch it? I don’t know.

PSG, Bayern Munich and Dortmund turned down invitations to join the league.

Also, I read a comment that each Bundesliga team is owned 51 percent by fan groups and 49 percent by other entities, so the fans groups have the only say about joining. If true, I'll become a bigger Bundesliga fan, even if Bayern Munich's ownership and management are shady as shit.

They should tell them all to get fucking bent, and each one of these greedy ducks should have to come groveling back after two years a few divisions lower than where they are.

So will this remove those teams from their domestic leagues? Or does it replace champs league/Europa? I admittedly haven’t looked into it.

feels like the all-in counter to the proposed champions league changes (which suck too). there's nothing really wrong with the champions league as is!
