So much fun to watch.

Ozil stopped playing for Arsenal 7 months ago! It seems like a nice gesture, and maybe it is. For a guy making 350,000 pounds a week for not even making the bench, it’s peanuts. It might be a shot at the club. Fans were furious that they laid off 53 employees when other clubs guaranteed no lay offs. The layoffs were the same day as some other decision I can’t remember, so it may be a passive aggressive attack. That would be the first instance of aggression from Ozil in 5 years.

Hey, let me get my shots in. His insane salary and apparent refusal to agree to be sold prevented additional signings. The guy has some amazing moments, but 90% of his game is loafing around pretending to track back. Tons of talent, no heart. And an amazing ability to fail to score on clear cut chances, usually not even taking a shot. And he is besties with Erdogan who attended his wedding. Fuck him.

Rooting for Everton, Liverpool got screwed on that overruled goal.

On the first replay, that they ultimately showed again after the goal was overturned, it did seem like offsides was the right call. Very close, but correct. The shot they kept showing with the lines on the screen, and Lee Dixon going on and on, definitely did not look offsides.

That was a real crappy spot to schedule that game. They’re not putting on ManU/City at 12:30 Saturday after a FIFA break.

I just couldn't see it. Sure looked like he was onside to me.

I'm a Liverpool supporter, but I really enjoy watching DCL play. Guy is a beast.

Chelsea's defense is ridiculous. Watched the game to see how Pulisic looked (pretty good), and got to see all 3 Saints goals come from some level of defensive bullshit.

Entertaining, if nothing else.

Yeah, one of the frustrating things about watching and trying to track Pulisic is at least half the squad has the same hair cut, build, and running gait.

The kid from Ajax debuted... Yitech, I think? He's going to be a player to watch.

Gonna say something kind of mean here... He really wimped out on that play. At a minimum, he could've slid both legs stacked at the ball. Even that is pretty dangerous in terms of potential outcomes.

I've talked about this before, but there has been a subtle but significant change in how goalies are taught to handle breakaways. Instead of basically bum rushing the oncoming attacker and diving at the ball when the time is right, they are now taught to bide your time, stay big, and kind of wait them out. (Think of a stand-up goalie in hockey.)

The problem I have with this approach is that it's not always applicable or the right move in certain situations. Sometimes you need to come off your line and blow somebody up (legally).

The right play for Kepa there, given that he was going to arrive either in time with attacker, or just marginally after, was to slide out with his hand/arms smothering the ball. You have to be brave there, but that's part of the job. Like I said up top, at a minimum you slide out like a defender and take the ball and then his legs.

I'm sure he's taking bloody hell from his trainer for that play.

I'll be honest and say I've got limited time watching him. Was very impressed with his skill on the ball last time I saw him.

This is the first time I've logged significant time watching PL games in over 5 years (really, probably longer.) I used to just fixate on whenever an American was playing in any league/game available.

That said, I did just set my DVR to track Dortmund last week. Old habits and all that.
