The day after the election - yes. If he suffers, then I hope it is public enough to show his supporters that the virus is indeed, kind of a big deal.

I tested negative for sympathy.

This, all the way through.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I agree with TB and SC but that's why I said "strategic no". Him and Limbaugh on the same day would be glorious.

I want to have it occur after the election, just so he has to feel the sting of losing royally.

Just need his big, wet, bloated body to hang on close to death for four more weeks and then kick it when the polls close on the West Coast. If this happens, I'll re-think my stance on God.

Mom used to say that you should never wish ill on another human being.

But when that human being wishes ill on everyone else, fuck him.

Although it would be neat if he survived with really bad health issues.

Forgetting anything having to do with the election (which is hard because of how inconsequential it is), it would Trump's luck to die in office, which will restore his reputation in the eyes of way, way, way too many people who should know better.

I don't exactly wish it to happen, but if I'm being completely honest there is a bit of excitement in the news. After 4 years of his incessant bullshit, there is some feeling of justice if COVID does him in. What drives me crazy is the brazen criminality, cheating and violating all norms and rules going unchecked. I'd take much more satisfaction out of a criminal conviction and seeing him rot in a prison cell, but that would likely never happen, so this is the next best thing. A heart attack or other natural cause would leave me feeling a lack of justice, but his handling of COVID, lies and disinformation campaign would be sweet justice. Imagine the legacy, a clip of him making fun of Biden for wearing a mask while he was in contact with the people he likely contracted the virus from. Seeing that debate clip linked to his legacy forever would be fitting.

OTOH, I start weighing the political strategic aspects. What happens to the ballots if it happens? Pence gets Trumps votes? Do Trump supporters come out for Pence? They'd have to run a massive effort of voting for Trump posthumously, but would his cult care? Would Pence pardon the kids? I do feel like the dark cloud covering politics for the past 4 years would be lifted. It'd also be nice to go into election day without the sitting President openly calling the integrity of the election into question and calling on his supporters to commit the felony of voter intimidation. It'd be nice to get the rioting over before the election.

One positive of Trump dying in the next few weeks is that if Biden wins, you can already book Donald Trump Jr. as the 2024 GOP presidential candidate. The Trump cult isn't gonna move to Pence in that case, it will look to the next generation.

Which brings up the next question. If Trump dies and Pence is the R candidate, does he de-emphasize anything that Trump emphasized? Or, emphasize anything that Trump did not? In other words, if he only has a few weeks to campaign as the candidate, does he change any tactic or strategy?

I'm pretty sure that if Trump dies before the electoral college votes in mid-December, any of his electors who are selected on November 3 will get to vote for whomever they want. Presumably the Republican Party would agree on his successor before then, and the Trump electors would fall in line to vote for that person. Pence is a logical choice, and also they might just choose to settle on Pence rather than have everyone fighting each other.

I don't want it to happen....not that he doesn't deserve it for the way he's handled this whole thing...and not because I'm not the kinda person to wish ill on someone like that.

But I want him to live...and to know that he's gonna lose this election (knock on wood). I want him to know that he's been rejected by the country, and to have to live with that.

ETA: Also...I can't live with 'Trump the Martyr" hagiography that we'll be submitted to if he goes because of this.

For what, like a year or two? And he won't even believe under any circumstances he lost anyway. He's too narcissistic to have a come to Jesus moment mentally.

We were all literally wondering what the contingency was if he refused to concede during the "Red Mirage" on election night.

Now we're like "No, no...he needs to atone. He needs to lose first."

It's not as glamorous a you'd think.

Also, Pence is charismatically impaired. He may have the same beliefs as all of the MAGAts that come to the rallies, but he's not inspiring them to schlep to the polls.

This is known as the ‘vindictive no’ poll vote. This is absolutely where I sit. Told my wife I want him to suffer, recover, and then be faced directly with the reality of his crushing defeat and failure.
