Man that sucks. Was one of a couple guys that made me want to learn guitar as a kid.

I was never a big Van Halen (the band) guy, but no denying he was an absolutely legendary guitarist.

Its funny...I think I like Van Halen more as I get older then I did back in their heyday when I was in High School.

Not like I'd put an album on or anything, but I really like some of their songs (Unchained, Jamies Cryin, Everybody Wants Some)

I’m not that much of a Van Halen fan but I saw them live at MSG c. 2007 with a college friend who was a massive fan of theirs. It was a pretty good show, with an amusingly intoxicated crowd, and Eddie could definitely shred it live.

I loved their first album when it came out. (Subsequent albums less so). I saw them live at Moby Gym in Fort Collins in 1979 or 1980, when I was attending CSU. Lots of soloing by Eddie V.

I liked a lot of the stuff by Eddie Van Halen and the Eddie Van Halen band, but I wouldn't say I was a big fan.

AB, I’m pretty sure I’m the only one getting this reference.

I wonder if Eddie Van Halen and the Eddie Van Halen brothers band ever heard the ballad of the devils backbone highway.

You know what? I think I'm wrong about not being a big fan. I'm looking at their greatest hits, and that shit holds up against anyone's best and there's a lot of songs I really really like.

And you can't strip the guitar out of any song. I probably remember more of these by riff than by chorus.

I'd put this up against any other artists' debut album.

1. "Runnin' with the Devil"
2. "Eruption" (instrumental)
3. "You Really Got Me"
4. "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love"
5. "I'm the One"
6. "Jamie's Cryin'"
7. "Atomic Punk"
8. "Feel Your Love Tonight"
9. "Little Dreamer"
10. "Ice Cream Man"
11. "On Fire"

CBS Sunday Morning interviewed David Lee Roth* and they tagged Eddie and the interviewer said "Eddie Van Halen, arguably one of the best guitarists of all time" and I was like...

Fuck You, CBS Lady... Why is it an argument? If you had said arguably THE best... Fine, that's an argument. But saying he's one of the best... Who's gonna argue that point?

I know it's dumb and semantics, but it bothered me.

* - I really don't like him. He's such a weirdo. Like, makes you uncomfortable to watch level of weirdo.
