Hell, that’s certainly possible. I may have misunderstood what he means by “have you offered me anything”.

That quote isn't a tangible, physical thing.

It means "if all you say you are is an alternative set of rich white people who are less racist than the other set of rich white people who are more racist you need to be something better in order to prove you're actually worth my vote."

The democratic establishment constantly pushes out actual progressives in favor of maintaining their power and they are slightly better than the alternative.

The "there is no difference between the parties" line isn't about actual political platforms, it's about how quickly you're discarded as a voter once the hoopla is over.

I can't control the Cheeto. You can't either.

But under normal democratic processes, Biden is the (heavy favorite now). I am gonna go ahead and feel good about that for today.

The second Tweet in that thread also makes the astute point that many communities of color in the US are actually somewhat aligned with the GOP on “values” issues, such that Dems need to do more than just be the less racist alternative to get their votes.

That reminds me that I went to South Texas for a wedding the weekend after the 2016 election and was cautioned by the groom (a Massachusetts native living there) to tread carefully on politics because many of the Mexican-American wedding guests were staunch Republicans. FWIW, South Texas is one of several areas where there was a big dropoff in Latino support between Clinton and Biden.

Arizona was the huge and crucial exception, which likely saved Biden. I’ve seen that attributed to years of on-the-ground mobilizing which began in response to Joe Arpaio’s atrocities.

Yeah. The years long efforts in Arizona by activists there to flip the state may have saved the Republic last night - because the Fox News call of Arizona as early as it did (which apparently pissed the white house off) really blunted the narrative they wanted to thunder into the night with. And made Trump's path really hard today in terms of gaming the system enough. Not that he won't try.

Immigrants are conservative in nature, they are most likely right to center right in their native country. It's just that republicans/conservatives in western countries abandon them so they vote liberal. It's super complex.

If 33% of the country doesn’t vote and the demographics of the non-voters don’t follow the demographics of the country as a whole, you have a problem with those who disproportionately aren’t voting.

I'm my mind Ohio and Florida are forever red. They aren't purple.

And long term, if the electoral college never goes away and the states with surplus Democrats don't move, this country will forever be defined as a "conservative" country.

The superficiality of the position is more important than the position. The likeability of a person (ya know like Bernie with the Latino vote) is far more important than if "the establishment" can deliver presents in a magical Christmasland scenario.

American minorites have seen enough. There's an unlikeable, and honestly fake persona from the left. A I-always-carry-hot-sauce-in-my-purse level of awkwardness with liberal white people. They are the parents from Get Out. They do shit like this:

Image

So how do you take these types seriously in policy when they are so fucking detached in understanding people?

Biden ran on a platform of spending trillions of dollars on expanding health care access, Covid relief, infrastructure, and green jobs. Plus promoting unionization and worker rights and raising the minimum wage. And citizenship for Dreamers, restoring the asylum process, eliminating the Muslim ban and public charge rule, and expanding and strengthening TPS.

The problem is, he also said Black Lives Matter and got identified with the ACAB/Defund folks and the looters.

Pretty much the first thing immigrants do once they start getting acclimated is turn on Blacks. The Irish did it, the Italians, the Poles, the Yugoslavs (my own family), the Asians. Remember the animosity between Blacks and Koreans in LA after Rodney King?

Latinos settled into Florida and Texas are just following the same pattern.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Sure looks like Biden is in good shape. I just woke up, but here's my understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Looks like Wisconsin should go for Biden.
Michigan looks good for Biden too at this point
Nevada has basically only mail-in ballots from Clark County to count according to Ralston which should favor Biden about 2 to 1.
With Arizona that's 270 EVs, right? Even without PA?

I was apoplectic during the general election campaign that the Dems weren’t using Julian Castro more as a surrogate. He was pretty much the only Presidential candidate who wasn’t giving a speaking spot at the convention. The cynical part of me says they were mad that Castro endorsed Warren rather than Biden when he dropped out. But I thought he could’ve helped their vulnerabilities with the Latino vote.

The other unforced error on this front was that Chuck Rocha, who did a great job running Bernie’s Latino outreach program, basically begged the Biden campaign to hire him for the general but got rejected. Instead, they hired Ana Navarro, a right-wing CNN commentator who worked for GW Bush.

Yes. Having a path without PA is crucial because the huge number of outstanding votes their invites fuckery by Trump and/or rightwing judges.

So are Venezuelans and even a lot of Central Americans and Mexicans. The Latino vote isn't monolithic. Nor is the Black vote frankly. In fact, if there's one good thing about this result if it ends up to be a Biden victory is that I think the Dems will finally have learned that lesson.

So, I stopped paying attention and drank myself to sleep somewhere around 10 last night. I could see there wasn't going to be any clarity pretty early, but my wife wouldn't really let it go until she was convinced after the third top of the hour with no real news.

I wake up today, and the bulk of toss up states are counting absentee/mail in ballots from heavily democratic districts.

I'm feeling pretty good, honestly.

It's so hard to group an entire Latino group together. For example, Mexicans and Centrals Americans are different than Cubans and South Americans.

But as discussed on here, Latinos as a group may vote GOP for these reasons.

1. They are conservative in their homeland
2. They are Catholic, pro-life and homophobic
3. They hate illegal immigrants if they were legal immigrants
4. They hate on blacks
and more...

and even blacks, as Brian just mentioned, there are American blacks, going back generations to slavery, and there are immigrant blacks, from Caribbean and Africa etc...

No, there was going to be a changing of the guard after this election. That's what happens when your presidential candidate is 77 and the Speaker of the House is 80. The next generation of Dems who will lead the party (Kamala Harris, AOC, even a more centrist type like Cory Booker) are a lot more realistic about the state of the electorate I think.
