This is another great take:

The GOP has this reputation as being completely ruthless and mercenary, yet they've still not been able to stand up to Trump at any point in the last five years when it should have been easy to strangle his candidacy in the cradle. Even now, they really should have no special loyalty towards him since he's on the way out, but they continue to mollify him.

Well, yeah. I don't think it's about loyalty to Trump, but rather they know that he has a huge and hugely loyal following among Republican voters, one that no Republican can win without. The people who really want tax cuts and deregulation are only a small group.

Yeah, we just went through four years of efforts by Lincoln Project types to say that Trump’s “not a real Republican” because he ran up the debt, was “soft on Russia” and disrespected the troops and McCain. And he still got an even higher percentage of GOP votes than in 2016. I don’t think Trump will run again in 2024 but Trumpism is the GOP brand for the foreseeable future.

Even if its only a loyal 15% of the voters, that would devastate the entire party.

Trumpism is the brand until Trump gets bored and moved away from politics. Unfortunately his fragile ego won’t let him walk away quietly. He’ll find a way to cash in on his base. Probably continue his rallies and collect “campaign contributions” without running, or announce he us running in 2024 and continue violating campaign finance laws and funnel donations to his businesses.

And when Trump moves on or goes to prison or dies, there will be someone picking up the deplorables. There’s no putting the genie back in the bottle.

I don't know, I think it'll be hard for someone else to keep them under a spell the way Trump did. I don't know if a personality cult can transfer to another person. It did in North Korea, but the people weren't given a choice, and brainwashed to believe the Kims are deities, and Eric and Jr. can't pull that off.

So here's a fun little trivia question (well, maybe).

We all know California will be a huge source of a popular vote margin for Biden.

But what state has given Trump his largest popular vote margin?

And what the hell, what state has given Biden his second-largest?

I thought it might have been KY, but looks like I was a bit off.

WV was. the largest margin for Trump..

It's not a state, but D.C was Biden's largest margin and I believe Mass was there also.

Kentucky was a pretty good guess. I'd say Tennessee?

Percentage-wise WV outstripped Tennessee, but Tennessee wins on sheer votes.

I have the other answer for Biden and it's not as surprising but does take some thought.

Yup. Trump won by 710,000 votes in Tennessee. KY was in fourth with a margin of 554,000. WV was in 12th with 330,655.

I love how these people act surprised that Trump and his surrogates are refusing to admit they lost. I mean, I telegraphed in 2016 he would have done this. His people (including most FoxNews personalities) have shamelessly lied and refused to admit or concede a bad fact ever, so why are they surprised? I don't remember if any posted Rick Santorum's claim of being shocked Trump wouldn't concede. Did Rick actually believe it when he said Trump loves our country and would never do anything to damage the country? Maybe he really is that stupid, I always thought he was pretending.

Guh, don't be a Nate. As I just posted in another thread:

So I saw a video of Pompeo, and shock of shocks, he wasn't remotely implying what Nate thought he was implying. Pompeo said it with a smug grin, then said whoever is in power ay noon on January 20, 2021, you can be sure it will be a smooth transition. Poor taste and a bad time to make a joke, sure, but he wasn't making any kind of a statement. At worst, he didn't want to piss off Trump and say Biden won. Once again, complete non-story and Nate shitting his pants again by taking something out of context.

Keep in mind Ron Johnson headed the Congressional committee wasting money and time on a political witch hunt to find evidence of Biden corruption in Ukraine. That needs to be investigated, but if the Dems can't take the Senate, I guess it won't be. It's not like there were any pressing matters for the government to attend to this past year.

I guess I'll put this here.

I hope you guys understand this shit frustrates me too.

From Andre Green, Massachusetts Dem Party, talking about Barr's latest BS:
I want to talk about how this will play out.

1)This will lead to Republicans calling for delays in certifying elections. Given there's, you know, NO EVIDENCE justifying those delays, they will be denied. This will give them cover to say "They certified while there were still open questions! WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?" It's a timeless con, but it's timeless because it works.

2)Elections, being run by people, are imperfect. There will almost certainly be improper or miscounted ballots--there always are, it's why states have recount procedures. What there will not be is enough to overturn any of these results--in a decently populated state you might see as many as a thousand votes switch in a sloppy election not the tens of thousands each in multiple states you would need. However, if you use the full weight of the DOJ to search, you'll almost certainly find *something.* This, will be used to explain how "obviously" there was more and Democrats stole it all.

Combine these and they have a narrative of illegitimacy that will keep Trump in our lives---and ensure that any attempt by the feds to hold him accountable for his lawlessness will seem to 40% of the country as a coup.

We aren't done defeating Trumpism, not by a long shot.

That essay looks about right to me. Good thing Jones Day is on the case. Jim Crow doesn't continue just with cross burnings. Lawyers needed too.
