My old boss at the PR firm I worked at for a year was the Director of Communications for the City of Detroit under Young. He took a lot of heat for that at the time, but she had some great stories about him.

One time he was getting shit at some community event or another that she was at with him and he had enough and said something to the effect (I don't remember the exact quote) "there's no one in this city better to talk to the people of Detroit than this loud, Jewish lady right here".

It kind of sounds bad if you read the quote out of context but I guess he really did love her (and she was a hell of a brassy, loud Jewish lady indeed).

But he knew he had the eye of the county execs in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb AND the FBI all watching him, so most of his shady shit was pretty small fry stuff. Or so I've been told.

Is the Biden Administration honor-bound to oppose this in some fashion? I don't think we're supposed to sit by while other countries impose sanctions on our government officials for doing official government things the other countries don't like.

So I guess it's tradition for the FLOTUS when leaving to write a Thank You note for hospitality staff of the WH, Like the House Keepers, Cooks, Staff, etc.. Well I guess Melania must have been too busy..

What a POS.

This whole "moving troops to the parking garage" fiasco is exactly why I was snarky about them being there in the first place.

I bet there's more to the story, but in the meantime:

I think even Johnnie would agree with this, but if you don't want to have to sleep in a hallway from time to time, don't join the fucking military. Believe me, a parking garage is probably vastly preferable to sleeping in a tent in Iraq or a rice paddy in Vietnam and you have the bonus of (very likely) no one shooting at you.

True. Especially in a service like the Army.

The funny thing to me is they were already sleeping in a not bed of a not hotel room by sleeping in the Capitol Building. They were moved.

I just want to know what went down next. I feel like we're missing a huge part of this. It's not uncommon that someone somewhere probably made a decision (like to move them so a bus could pick them up, for example) and decided on a parking garage. And then the order is communicated in a way that conveys "All right, get the fuck out peasant." Then the bus never comes giving the impression that they were kicked out and rustling jimmies.

But it was very awesome that Senator Duckworth got into people's shit and fixed the problem ASAP.

25,000 troops is a lot of troops.

For reference, I'm at Kunsan Air Base and there are only 3,800 active duty troops here. We have numerous massive dorms/barracks and we're still at capacity.

And you can't really build a tent city quick enough either. Or even bus then en masse fast enough all over DC to various hotels.

Logistics, beddown, and sustainment is hard. But jamming square pegs into round holes is easy.

SHOCKING: CNN is reporting 17 Senators won’t vote yes to impeach Trump. Also said Graham made comments they are going to hold up Bide appointees and not split impeachment days.

Don’t the Repubs still hold the senate due to power agreement not being signed yet?

While I agree with the general sentiment, and have read J's response... It's a fucktacular look when you have a city where hotels are vastly underbooked, not to mention multiple college campuses dorms are sitting empty. Or whatever arena/stadium isn't being used.

I don't think they still hold power, but without an agreement in place it's a stalemate (which, obvi, is what the repubs want, so...)

Reading through Abramson's tweets is crazy (well crazier than usual). More evidence is coming and the insurrection investigation probably deserves a new thread. Shit will hit the fan or this will be the greatest cover up ever.

If you think the military is going to pay to book comfort and convenience for 25,000 people, you've been mistaken. PR be damned.

The military is designed to do things that's easiest for the top of the chain of command and in direct line with orders given from civilian leadership.

All other variances along the way are assumed to be "delegated to the lowest level" in support of operations.

The military couldn't care less about about how it looks to the public. You're a government-owned asset who will do what's told. If that is to move to a parking garage, you move.

This is routine. And why you should think twice about ever joining in the first place.

Sorry to get all "crusty old military guy" on here, but sometimes you have to do things that suck. Deployments fucking suck.

Looks like I was wrong about their living arrangements. My apologies. My sentiments in my previous post remain (the military largely doesn't care about your convenience), but it's completely misplaced here.

Here's the other side of the story:

They were on a break, still authorized to use the Capitol in various forms, and did have hotel rooms to go back to.

Despite this, Biden still apologized.

The photos and the stories presented from them were possibly sensationalized and didn't tell the full story. (Army grunts could've complained to the media that then ran with it, giving it life.)

There's even a person who was there answering done questions in the comments.
