I don't know if any of you are planning on seeing "White Boy Rick", but his story is fascinating.

Matthew McConaughey does not appear in the story, but Kid Rock does, as well as Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson and Inspector Todd from "Beverly Hills Cop".

I suspect most have probably read it at some point, but being a bit of a Cold War buff, this is one of the essays I've most enjoyed reading, though not entirely accurate with hindsight.

The related book is also a good read...

Guys - you may know that I am a big Sumo fan - watch more sumo than baseball and (Regular season) hockey combined.

This is a good way to get ready for the next basho (tournament) which starts on the 7th of July. I can send links for the daily highlight updates.

I was in Japan while this particular tournament took place and was in the arena on day 11.

Great story, and very scary. Interesting to me because I worked for decades at a global supply chain management company.

This damn article speaks to me in so many ways:

How Millennials Became The Burnout Generation

I look at a lot of things these days in the perspective of my getting in trouble and coming home early from deployment. I am constantly feeling like I don't do enough work every day or don't do well for myself and those around me. I feel guilty going to a mental health professional to simply talk or maybe getting back from lunch 5-10 minutes later. And it basically boils down to I'm a terrible person because I'm bad at/missing work.

Because, hey! I was burnt out on a deployment over people feeling entitled to redeploy when they thought they should and I was placed in an impossible position to placate them because my commander said so despite it being against instructions and guidance....so I swore out loud in frustration once.

Needless to say, I'm counting every minute of my existence within the military down to when I get to leave it (2 years, 8 months!) and I'm near paranoid I won't be able to retire because someone somewhere thinks I'm not living up to my job description and I get in trouble for some dumb reason. The mental toll I put on myself is unhealthy at times.

But yeah. It's wild to me that there are others who are just done with everything but have to keep going because of false promises ingrained into us when we were young.

I didn't read the article, but the last thing you should feel guilty about is seeing a mental health professional. Anyone who says differently can fuck right off.

Forensic examinations of Zaharie’s simulator by the FBI revealed that he experimented with a flight profile roughly matching that of MH370—a flight north around Indonesia followed by a long run to the south, ending in fuel exhaustion over the Indian Ocean. Malaysian investigators dismissed this flight profile as merely one of several hundred that the simulator had recorded. That is true, as far as it goes, which is not far enough.
Of all the profiles extracted from the simulator, the one that matched MH370’s path was the only one that Zaharie did not run as a continuous flight—in other words, taking off on the simulator and letting the flight play out, hour after hour, until it reached the destination airport. Instead he advanced the flight manually in multiple stages, repeatedly jumping the flight forward and subtracting the fuel as necessary until it was gone.
I mean, as the article goes on to detail, while extremely rare there are at least 5 other recent examples of pilots crashing large passenger planes as a means of suicide. It's pretty amazing to me that this "theory" hasn't been given more coverage.

That was a weird article. I mean, it definitely explains the guy's mindset and motivation.

But brian's framing still stands, as does your comment. Dude glamorized the martyrdom of missionaries killed trying to reach remote tribes. Dude got turned into a pin cushion 8 hours after they sent their youngest tribe member out to put an arrow through his chest.

Bro, they don't need your gift of fish and scissors. GTFO.
