I don't know if any of you are planning on seeing "White Boy Rick", but his story is fascinating.

Matthew McConaughey does not appear in the story, but Kid Rock does, as well as Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson and Inspector Todd from "Beverly Hills Cop".

I suspect most have probably read it at some point, but being a bit of a Cold War buff, this is one of the essays I've most enjoyed reading, though not entirely accurate with hindsight.

I look at a lot of things these days in the perspective of my getting in trouble and coming home early from deployment. I am constantly feeling like I don't do enough work every day or don't do well for myself and those around me. I feel guilty going to a mental health professional to simply talk or maybe getting back from lunch 5-10 minutes later. And it basically boils down to I'm a terrible person because I'm bad at/missing work.

Because, hey! I was burnt out on a deployment over people feeling entitled to redeploy when they thought they should and I was placed in an impossible position to placate them because my commander said so despite it being against instructions and guidance....so I swore out loud in frustration once.

Needless to say, I'm counting every minute of my existence within the military down to when I get to leave it (2 years, 8 months!) and I'm near paranoid I won't be able to retire because someone somewhere thinks I'm not living up to my job description and I get in trouble for some dumb reason. The mental toll I put on myself is unhealthy at times.

But yeah. It's wild to me that there are others who are just done with everything but have to keep going because of false promises ingrained into us when we were young.

I didn't read the article, but the last thing you should feel guilty about is seeing a mental health professional. Anyone who says differently can fuck right off.
