I can’t be the only one who just googled Deshaun Watson Steelers
They gotta get in line. Miami, SF, WFT, Bears, I think the Texans could get, what, 5 number 1s for him? More?

Holy shit!

Optimist me says - “epic blowout!”

Pessimist me asks -“didn’t the last Browns/Steelers playoff game start like this?”

The Steelers deserve this for what they did to my fantasy team on semifinal weekend.

What's the football equivalent of “we want 10” goal chants?

I genuinely can't believe the Steelers punted there to start the 4th quarter...

That punt decision seemed to assume that franchise curses are a real thing.

It's the only thing that I can think of. That seriously, seriously, made no sense. Like, is Tomlin throwing the game kinda no sense.

I was ok with the punt. Steelers had plenty of time left and their defense had been stopping Cleveland. Punt bouncing into the end zone and Baker making plays screwed that up.

But...they got like 25 yards of field position by punting. At likely best, they stop cleveland 3 and out and get the ball back about 15 yards worse than they did by passing up a chance to go for it. With several minutes gone. At worst, they give up a TD drive like what happened. And they had all momentum too.

I think that punt ends up inside the 10 about 75% of the time (I know nothing about the Steelers' special teams so that could be wrong) and the Browns offense was stalling. The other factor is how much do you trust your offense and the plays you have on a short yard play, which is an aspect I don't think is factored enough when people say it's a no brainer to go for it on 4th or to go for 2. And there was so much time left. Maybe I'm just getting conservative in my old age.

You are defending this and it is borderline indefensible. It doesn't make sense from an analytics standpoint, and old school momentum standpoint, or anything in-between. Time was as precious to the Steelers at that point as anything else, and, AT BEST (assuming no fumble of the punt) the Steelers were giving away at least two minutes of clock instead of trying to pick up a 4th and 1 when they had all the momentum in the world.

Cleveland has a powerhouse running game and a good line. Time was a huge factor, they can chew all sorts of clock at any point.

Was it 2 or 3 possessions before that the Browns did nothing and they were dealing with a ton of O-line injuries? Maybe Tomlin counted too much on recent events. I don't believe I'm defending Tomlin; maybe you're right.

Whether it was two or three, Tomlin should not be coaching like that is for sure going to continue. Chubb and Hunt are lethal and Cleveland runs a really good short passing game. The idea that they could grind out clock at some point should have been at top of consideration. And, AGAIN, even if they 3 and out cleveland they have given away two plus minutes of clock.

It's just...non-sensical.

I hated that punt decision. I think if the Steelers go and get it (tbf, not a sure thing), I think they probably drive for another TD and the Browns are reeling.

I also didn't understand kicking the extra point when they scored to make it a 13-point game. Why not go for 2 there?

To be fair, I would have kicked the field goal on the drive when it got to 4th and goal from the 5. That was ballsy, which in turn makes the later punt decision even stranger.

I wasn't sure at the time since I've seen them chase so many fourth downs and I had thought that maybe their defense turned a corner of some sort, but you guys are probably right. Since you have to stop the Browns quickly no matter what, I guess it doesn't matter where they start from really.

I think it took them 2 or 3 plays to get back to midfield. It didn’t help that the punter overhit it by 18 inches.

Vrabel explaining his punt choice said he thought he could pin them inside the 10. Do coaches over emphasize the significance of pinning a team? Bad punts made the decisions look worse.

I'm over the Ben Roethlisberger experience, btw. He looks like late-career Eli Manning, but they'll probably fall for all of these fluff numbers and ride it one more year. People had been saying that he was playing well this year and at no point did I have any idea what they were watching. This WR group is ridiculously good and were mostly just wasted.

If his offensive line was merely average in pass blocking, he wouldn't have made it to week 5.

Cleveland jumping to that massive lead played right into what the Steelers do well on offense - throw little short passes. The Browns ended up playing deep zones and having back-seven tackling drills most of the night.

This is fair, their line graded out poorly in some analyses this year, especially pass pro. Getting the ball out quickly kept him as the least-sacked QB in the league.
