Tommy Lasorda
One of the game's best characters.
You know what you need? A lyrical sucker punch to the face.

Where is the Phillies Phanatic?
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

Walter Alston immediately to Tommy LaSorda was a hell of a run. I’m sure it’s happened, but the list of franchises in sports that had two consecutive coaches serving at least twenty years each, with a winning record and multiple titles each, has to be pretty short.

God damn that team.

Yeah, I think Torre + Girardi with both having a decade is probably near the top of the modern list. Twins probably had longer tenures for Kelly + Gardenhire but I'm not sure the latter was over .500.

1.) Espn's headline "Tommy Lasorda loved baseball and being Tommy Lasorda" is exactly what I think of when I think about him. If Baseball's national team job was more like soccer I would have said give him the full time US job.
2.) Wonder how many papers had a Tommy Lasorda obit already in the can ready to go. 93 is a long run for a guy of that shape.

Him winning the Olympics with a bunch of non-prospect minor leaguers was an underrated achievement.

Just read Ray Ratto's story on Defector....I had forgotten how terrible Lasorda was to his son, who was gay and died of AIDS.

I am in a group photo with him, buried in one of my wife's photo albums.
But, I also agree with Mr. Fletcher.
