DIVISIONAL ROUND DONGPARTY

Post by Gunpowder »

Sorry AB, but it still doesn't like the Browns. I manually boosted them a little but as it's built there's no other way to account for playoff performances. I'm not sure the numbers would do them justice either, as they are already really good running the ball and the numbers would probably suggest a bad defensive performance just due to all the prevent they played when that wasn't really the case.

Now here they are with the last 5 games of the season weighted at 75% of the total rankings:

Make it 100% of the weight and you get this:

Just workshopping here to see if any of these methods give me better results.

BFJ's a mensch - sent me a congratulatory message before the game ended.

I'm having a hard time understanding how the Bills D could look so bloody good.

Question: how many playoff games would Mahomes win with Brown, Snead, Andrews and Dobbins as his primary targets, rather than Hill, Watkins, Kelce and Edwards-Helaire/Bell?

I can turn that around and ask how many playoff games would Lamar Jackson win if he was better than just an average passer?

How much do receivers that can actually get open improve his average passer rating. This team sucks at drafting receivers.

That’s not turning it around. That’s simply avoiding a valid question many folks here in Baltimore have been asking.

I mean, there are other things that need fixing, and yes Jackson is not Mahomes...But a single dynamic route runner would presumably free up Brown to gain more favorable matchups.

Yeah, you're right. Saw that in Buffalo with Josh Allen. His receivers in his first season were castoffs, last year John Brown and Beasley came in and this year Stefon Diggs.

I think Mahomes would still be a Super Bowl contender (not the KC powerhouse) if Sleeping with the Bieniemy is coaching instead of Roman with those receivers. Teams figured out how to stop Roman's system this year. I'm not sure how much blame the receivers or Brown's accuracy should get, but having such a run heavy system probably didn't help the development of the QB and WRs.

So what's the future for the Ravens? I think Ravens have a big year next year. I mean there's no doubt they're picking up Lamar's fifth year option, but before you commit to give him stupid QB money you might want to make sure he can actually QB. Even if being a pass heavy team next year means you go 6-10 you need to see if Lamar can be a true QB. You can demolish a good chunk of teams running for 200+ yards a game, but as we've seen in the playoff losses when you can put the Ravens in tight scoreline/timeline situations where running it is the least efficient option then they are in trouble. They didn't even need that much from their offense last night and they couldn't get it done.

As has been mentioned here, some of that is the organization failing Lamar by giving him a poor receiving core. Whether thru the draft or FA they need to give him a decent #1 option. But they also need to try and play more pass heavy so we can see if Lamar has the ability to play QB exclusively.

I didn't watch a ton of this game and I know he's not all world, but Lamar didn't look that bad passing to me, especially routes under 15 yards. What I didn't understand was the play calling. Why are you running designed QB sweep plays when you know the team is dead set on not getting beat by Lamar outside? I agree with him not having much to work with but the scheme last night was awful.

Yeah, but there was the wind as well. Not many passes getting past 15 yards anyways.

Lots of screaming in Baltimore for Greg Roman to be shown the door. At one point, the RB’s were averaging 5+ yds/carry last night but he seemed dead set on running designed runs for Lamar. The Run/Pass option that seems to suit them and opens up lanes for Lamar or Dobbins/Edwards wasn’t used much last night. There were so many things that went wrong last night. The O line play was horrible, the center should be made to walk home from Buffalo, there was no pass rush on Allen for a good portion of the game, Dobbins dropped two sure first down passes, etc. It’s very easy to blame Lamar, but I don’t think he was at fault not was a team loss and it sucked.

They are going to extend him and pay him stupid money, I think that’s a given. They need to give him receivers who can run routes so that would allow Brown to play the slot and get open more. I have ZERO faith that they can draft a good WR, they have never ever drafted/developed a good WR.
